Mage's and Fighter's Guilds

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:41 pm

The Mages Guild has the Arcane University in OB.

Is there something similiar to this, only for the Fighter's Guild. Do they have like an Art of War University or something. I know there's nothing of this sort in OB. not that I've seen anyway. But what about somewhere else? Is or has there ever been something of equal proportions to the AU, only ran, headed if you will, by the FG?.. Just wandering.

I don't think the Fighters Guild has much structure. It's basically just a way to get the vast numbers of shiftless, armed men out there to get a roof and Imperial law under their heads instead of rauaging the countryside into George RR Martin's medieval paradise.

The closest thing the Fighters Guild in Cyrodiil has to a training school is the Anvil Chapter. And it's not nearly as big as the Arcane University.

Well, it was formed when they were pretty shorthanded, and it's worked out pretty well. Citizens can get reliable mercenary service, and the mercenaries get work. At least, as long as a rival mercenary group doesn't set up nearby...

Paws has it. It's basically just there to give unhireable criminals a job. I've never heard of George Martin.

Well, you should have. :P

A Song of Ice and Fire ftw. [/really devoted fan]

I imagine that the Fighters' Guild SHOULD have some central authority... Perhaps some insignificant division of Imperial government is devoted... That we never saw.

Actually, they don't like criminals, you'll get kicked out if you get into too much trouble. Unhireable criminals get a job at the Blackwood Company instead, as they'll accept anyone who can handle a weapon.

Amazing book series, can't wait for the 5th one.

I feel like Beth made the Fighters Guild a battle of good and evil in TES: 4 with them against the blackwood company. I could see them doing some shady underhanded things.

According to the Fighters Guild Charter, they cannot accept contracts that would require violating the law. However, as was shown in Morrowind, their Guildmaster and his lackeys had no qualms about accepting illegal contracts or working with the Camonna Tong.

Everything was a battle of good and evil in TESIV. :meh:

I preferred their stance in Morrowind where you were tricked into being a tool for the Camonna Tong to do their quests, believing you were helping fight criminal scum, when in reality you're unwittingly helping them destroy the Theives' Guild (who were definitely the lesser of the two evils, when compared to the Camonna Tong, and indeed they had their "good" moments, namely the Bal Molagmer sub-questline) from the inside, with only a scant few members realising that something fishy's going on. If you realise something's wrong (with the help of that Ald-Ruhn guildmaster), you can deal with the quests more peacefully instead.

It's a lot better than the generic and obvious "These are the Fighters' Guild guys. They're honorable, Lawful Good and pet puppies. These are the Blackwood Company guys. They're dishonorable, Chaotic Evil and kick puppies. We also present them as doing drugs, at the expense of fan perceptions of a certain race's culture. We'll pick the Good side for you, regardless of whether or not you actually want to be with the Fighters' Guild".

Or a corrupt guildmaster isn't on a local druglord's payroll.

No, they're just a mercenary guild. They're not like SeeD or anything.

I never mentioned criminals. I mentioned armed vagrants, which is basically what the player character is half the time.

In real life there is no such thing as a traveling warrior or an adventurer. The modern equivalents are poor kids in Africa who got an Ak-47 from some jerk and are causing chaos.

I didn't know that!! My character thought he was ridding Vvardenfell of a group of vagabond criminals, not doing the Camonna Tong's dirty work! How do you figure that out in the game?!

Sorry to distract from the thread, that just caught me by surprise.

That's cute like carebears, but I'd rather root for a guild that's got a pair and includes some better writing.

You need to talk to the ex-GM, who is stationed in the Ald'ruhn fighters guild. The only ones who are not corrupt is the sadrith mora's and the ald'ruhn's. The orc in Vivec is the left hand man of the current GM, and the firey haired lass in Balmora is in his service, but not completely and is not that corrupt

No, the Fighter's Guild isnt needed that much by the empire (devs) for them to invest some time making a proper HQ for it. The Imperial Legions didnt even get any "Art of War school", or Legion Academy, or anything along those lines.
