New to Oblvion - What are some good quests?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:48 am

I've done the one for the skeletal key. Is there any other hot item quests I should be aware of? It doesn't have to be an item. Anything worthy?

Go to the Anvil dockyard and do the Serpent's Wake quest. You can get a nice sword at the end of the quest!
Then go to Sheogorath's Statue and bring me some Yarn, Lesser soul gem and lettuce. You get a staff called Jabbawock or something like that. The statue is North-west of Leyawin.

the best way to experience oblivion, especially for new players, is to get in a guild and complete the main quest. these will take you to interesting places and far flung corners of cyrodill and introduce you to alot of the game. otherwise, oblivion is what you make of it. there is no "best quests". many people enjoy oblivion most when they aren't doing any quests at all.

You should just experience the game for yourself. It won't be nearly as fun if you know what quests give the best items.

what i always say to new players is to just play, and worry about everything with your next characters.

Next chars? I will prob only have one char. I will prob soon get bored of Oblivion and move on to something else. I have spent hours wandering around exploring every inch of the map picking flora and mushrooms. I've killed in caves. I've done the mages' quest chain to get into the University. I've done the Main Quest till I got bored silly of it (didn't take long). I don't really like questing unless I know there is a prize at the end of the quest that will impress me. If i wanted to just live the game I wouldn't have bothered asking the forums for help.

Well if you really want to find all the best items you can poke around here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion but really having all the best items in the game and knowing where to find them is a sure way to make the game boring really fast especially if you already find it boring. Maybe Oblivion just isn't the game for you or you need to move on to something else.

They jemane brothers quests in chorrol are good as you can get Cool shield with up to 30% reflect damage at high levels after beating all 3 quests. The mozoga the orc quests are also nice for low level characters as you can use the white stallion lodge as a house (containers dont respawn though mozoga will eat the food) and you can turn in black bows for 100 gold each to the count of leyawin

Go to Pale Pass. There is a quest that you are on, and an unmarked-chest finding quest there as well. The prize is a remarkable piece of jewelery, depending on your level, and sounds like you will receive the best version.
Have you gone to the Shivering Isles? Have you done the Knights of the Nine?
Thieves Guild Quest line is the best in the game I think, perhaps tied with the Mages' Guild, as I am a mage at the moment, along with another character.
Have you done the Daedric Shrine Quests?

if you haven't done them yet i'll reccomend the dark brotherhood. i found the quests to be some of the most amusing and entertaining in the game. not to mention the quest rewards are usually worthwile.

No one mentioned Azura's quest... interesting...

I would agree with the post about what you enjoy in gaming. The Elder Scrolls (and Bethesda in general) are about living in an alternate world, not seeking hot item rewards. That's how they design their games, as they have said in interviews and such. The idea is to make different characters who do different things for different reasons in a virtual existence. That may not be to your taste, though.

That being said, Bethesda has perhaps the most active modding community of any game company ever. Therefore, it is really unlikely that you cannot find new stuff to do simply by searching for mods that add and/or alter content, including complete overhaul mods that essentially remake the entire game. Check the mod forum for more info.

You can't go too far wrong with the daedric shrine quests since these give fixed item rewards (artifacts). However, not every reward is great for every character (a heavy armor wearer isn't going to get excited by a lightweight bp for instance) so check 'em out on wiki if you want to avoid quests with disappointing rewards. Many quests give levelled item rewards so you might want to delay them until you can get the high end item.

So lets mention it :)
Azura's quest will reward you with one of the most useful items in the game.

I would take this advice it will let you apprecieate the game more along with picking up tips and tricks that you can always use.I would knock out the arena first of all.try to get into some guild even tho some can be tought(fighters guild lets you right in tho)the darkbrotherhood is cool dont go vamp tho it is a pain in the rear.Unless you know how to live with it the septims know i dont.I would try yo finsih the main quest series 1st if you can and want to becuase well you'll see.I would be sure to look in caves and such to find super nifty and suprising facts about the game.Have fun and enjoy The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.

I can come up with five quest around the Imperial City you can do quite easily since you already have the skeleton key and two of them you definitely need that *special* key to finish those quests. Like someone said earlier you can explore the game world for awhile, because I know one http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Master_Training quest you really need to explore the map possible two quests.

Imperial Corruption, The Order of the Virtuous Blood, Unfriendly Competition (inside the Imperial City)
A Venerable Vintage, Go Fish (around Weye)

Why not to get out to the roads and fight any bandits that shows up or they try to rob you. :)

I like the Dark Brotherhood questline, though I feel a bit guilty at having to kill an innocent (or at least nonaggressive) person in order to qualify.

Aside from Daedric Quests (Vaermina...) my favorite quests are the Ayleid series with Umbacano, the expedition for Countess Bruma, helping the brothers in Chorrol restore their home, and the investigation for Countess Chorral.

Those are, of course, among many other great ones.

The quest from the retired fishermen at Weye, gives you that ring that allows you to breath underwater. Useful at sometimes at least.

This.

And if you're on PC, once you finish the Vanilla (original game) quests, don't forget to look out for good questmods. There are a bunch of them that are FAR better than any quest from the original game.

Return to IV - Oblivion
