Question about split of mages guild............

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:24 pm

i saw a post somewhere that said something about the mages guild splitting into two different factions. i heard of one of them before, the college of whisperers but i forgot the name of the other one. also, does this mean the necromancers were absorbed into one of the groups or are they still separate?

Synod is the other faction, I think. I don't think anything has been said about the necromancers, and seeing as how the split took place during the events of The Infernal City novel, which takes place 160 years before Skyrim, there's no guarantee that either faction will actually be in the game at all.

Necromancers were always in the Mages guild, they just also had something of a group outside to discuss more private matters.

And since a Synod in real life is a meeting of catholic church members, we've been speculating that the Synod is a religious magical organization in the Elder Scrolls.

It may be that the College of Whispers is more Necromancy-inclined than the Synod. The fact that they're shying away from generic names like The Necromancer's Guild and the Mages Guild could be indicative of new shades of grey, rather than the blatent "Burn the Witch!' behavior we had to sit through in oblivion, haha.

thanks anyways.............but to be honest i do so much reading and research on the internet and for school that im too burned out to read a book. unless they are golden books or pop-ups, those are easy reads. :) there are some other books like the ones for the new HBO series is based on, i have to try when i get the energy........think it was called "game throne" or "throne games" or something like that. supposedly they are good.

@alexandus..............i agree. its nice to see more originality in the game instead of copy/paste generic fantasy trope stuff like in oblivion. man i miss morrowind. :(

Yea, I'm glad they're moving away from [blank] Guild to a degree but I kinda liked there being a Mages and Fighters guild. They always seemed very official and far reaching. Thieves Guild should have always been called something more subtle and there should have been a sub-guild in the Mages guild of certain guild members inducting you into a vaguely named Necromancer cult. Personally I'd like Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, DB, Morag Tong, vaguely named Thieves Guild, vaguely named Necromancers Guild, and a couple unique local factions.
