Taking Care of Legate

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:42 pm

Not sure if people are still having problems with this guy, but I found a good quick way to deal with him unless the developers tweaked him in the patch. My party consisted of Boone, Ed-E and yours truly armed to the teeth with several weapons including the recharger rifle, recharger pistol, plasma defender, anti-material rifle, sniper rifle, All-American, Riot-Shotgun, Ranger Sequoia, and other goodies. Played on hardcoe mode and sadly Boone had his gun nuked from his hand twice so I had to give him my precious Anti-Material rifle. Only had AP rounds so I loaded him up with those then let him go to town with them.

As we reached legate I whipped out my riot shotgun and started to go to town on him not making a dent. Then the next thing I know I hear the *BOOM* of my anti-material rifle coming from Boone. Well the svcker did 20% damage to Legate in that one hit causing him to run away like a freaking coward. I followed after him pelting him in the [censored] like kids going after the odd ball in gym class. Managed to nuke him a bit before Legate's friends came out to assist in the battle. Took some doing, but managed to kill his friends with some diligence and a hefty amount of stims. This is when Legate returned to try to finish the job, but Boone pelted him again with the AM rifle loaded with AP rounds.

Seems that Boone maybe the best person to take care of Legate loaded down with the Anti-material rifle and AP rounds. However this was probably due to me picking up Boone in the beginning when I was level 13 to 15. He had 305 Health and probably did a ton of damage since he could nearly 1 shot death claws with the 308 sniper rifle.

Honestly, I had little or no trouble with this guy. I even only had ED-E, because Boone mysteriously disappeared after blowing up the BoS bunker (Luckily, I found him later in the Hidden Valley). I believe I still had my rangers with me and they took down his health little by little. I sat up at the highground picking at his health with the Anti-Material Rifle. But, he really did no damage to me. It was getting to him that was the problem.

I didn't have a tough time taking him down. I just used a Ballistic Fist, no companion, just a little help from the NCR since I sided with them :). Now I'm bummed that I finished the game before any add-on was ever released. Lol.

I stood back and blasted him in the head with the AMR before he even had a chance to talk to me. A string of plasma mines down the path crippled his leg. Stood back and sniped his head off with the Gobi.

I don't initiate speed with him at all. I get in view of his ugly face, then crouch and VATS twice with an anti-materiel rifle loaded with AP rounds. Dies damn near instantly. Probably wouldn't need that second shot, either, if I had taken all the stealth and critical perks.

On my first playthrough, I talked him into one on one, without the other legionaries fighting me, in the second one, I talked him down from it. I found that far more interesting than a cliche fight to the death

You haven't finished the game until you've seen all the endings. :P
