Are you worried about DLC in the next Elder Scrolls?

What do gamerscore points do?

Bragging points, nothing more.

My question is that are you worried that Bethesda now think that they can release astronomical amounts of DLC thinking that it can make up for a game that isn't astounding in the first place?

After reading your post, yes. I'm worried Beth will let this method of milking money go to their head. I haven't played FO3 yet 'cause after Oblivion's initial bugs, I'm waiting until FO3 drops in price before I give it a chance. Since I think you make a valid point here, this only re-inforces my stance on me purchasing FO3. It's initially gonna cost me $65 to buy (currently) and you're experience says it felt incomplete? I'm now cringing at the idea of how much each consecutive DLC costs then if they are not up to SI's standards. At least I hope they put as much initial content into TES V as they did with Oblivion, if not more. If it's small DLCs like horse armor, forget it. I'll just wait until they release the CS (if they haven't already) and make my own for free. I bought SI when it came out for around $60 and I'm not complaining, so I would pay for entire expansions.

Plus another trend I hope the gaming industry doesn't continue is intentionally making restriction on gameplay mechanics to make up for crappy AI. For example, you couldn't use all possible spells like resotring health and fatigue to enchant on your armor just so the game would be harder via handicap. Another example in the gaming industry is racing, I supe up my vehicle to be a performance powerhouse only to be handicapped by the games built in (programmed) catch up AI feature. So if the AI opponent can catch up to me anyway, why bother adding the feature to supe up my car? Not to mention on the Need for Speed series, I swear I could feel a performance/ behavioral difference with my car with every different opponent I went up against. To purpsosely hinder/ handicap my own raw skills just to put a difficulty edge to the game is VERY cheap/ annoying and lazyass programming.

I hope EA doesn't start charging for every single new car DLC they add to their NFS games (or am I too late?).

If Bethesda really wants money... make a couple huge expansions. Right there you have something to for you to do while planing TES VI, and make more money then 5 DCLs that the website goes down

Random Conspiracy theory: the website could be purposely down so if you have to Knights of the nine Retail, and Shivering Isles. 1 DLC pack twenty bucks, one Expansion pack 20 Dollars, One game thirty Dollars.

70 Bucks

Yeah, with the money Beth is probably making you'de think they'd hire better tech personel to get that download site back up faster. How long has it been down now? Not only do they come out with cheap DLCs they can't be bothered any farther to take care of some major glitch/ bug issues. PS3 Oblivion vampire cure anyone? A-bomb?... That's the fast track to making people feal ripped off.

IF you, Bethesda, made TES5 to be the pinnacle of CRPGing of all times, you could keep making expansions after another, like some MMOs are doing atm (EVE, WOW and so on). Big expansions, not just DLCs. Expansions you buy on DVDs and get maps and stuff.

So if I was deciding of things, plainly on the monetary/commercial standpoint, I'd say delay the release as much as needed, finish the game, implement everything that would make it the BEST game ever (all this stuff here for starters), and kill the bugs. Then, even if it was too deep for some casual gamers, it would make huge amount of money when you release expansions every X-mas, and every summer (when no one else releases anything). The life span of the game would be something different from any other single player CRPGs, and that equals $$$ ??? ??? !
And if the consoles can't handle all that, make it PC exclusive. Port afterwards if possible, when GOTY edition(s) are out, like you did with TES3:Morrowind.

Quoting myself again. I didn't like any of the TES4 DLCs, espacially when they were just adding something that should have been there in the 1st place. I haven't played a single FO3 DLC/expansion, because I'm only buying FO3 when the complete edition is out (and for a bargain).

In general I don't like paying for 0's and 1's, I rather pay for a DVD that contains them, and the manuals and maps and stuff.

They should really focus on patching the next game, and who says a patch can't also include small bonuses. The main thing ofc is to fix the old bugs. Then, I want real additions, that add tens of hours of playing. Those are the ones you pay of. If some developers feel like making small mods, like the case was with TES3, of course I want to download them and try them out. For free.

If I download something, its free. The only exception for the rule I accept is MMOs ... but I only play one MMO at a time, I'm extremely picky with this, and once I selected my MMO of choice, I'm not going to switch it around a lot.

well i think the only reason F3 wouldve felt incomplete was because of the ending, but with all the wicked DLC its awesome. the thing tht sux though is tht you either wait till its all out then buy the disc for a good price, or practically buy the game twice by getting them as they come.

Well, I've never paid for any of Bethesda's DLC. I've bought their expansions though, Bloodmoon and Tribunal.

Same here. Although my reason is that they won't let me buy any. :brokencomputer:

As for the amount of DLC, I would rather have a nicely fleshed out game with smaller add ons and maybe a large one (Like Shivering Isles). Having too many medium-sized ones just isn't that appealing to me.

DLC is bad. Just plain bad. Its just another way to rip us off, especially when they have DLC planned for the game when it isnt even out yet.

"Hmm, how about we not put this freature in straight away, and make them pay more money for it later?"

Expansion packs are fine, like Shivering Isles was great and added alot of extra content and well worth the money I spent on it. But paying extra money just for some horses armour or a dagger is rediculous.

Okay, DLC that should have (and could have) been in the game to begin with is bad. But that doesn't mean all DLC is evil.

Sure, I like a nice juicy expansion, but I really loved a lot of Fallout 3's DLC. And someone said they were overpriced? Hardly. A lot of whole games that are $60 in less time than it would take to properly explore a lot of Fallout 3's DLC. I kind of liked the shortness of them, really. Like i said, I'd enjoy a nice big expansions, something in the ilk of Bloodmoon for morrowind, but I won't turn down something the size of Point Lookout if it's only gonna be $10.

There's way too much DLC hate going on here, much of which is uninformed. I think some of the Oblivion DLC was money grubbery, but then again, a lot of it was pretty decent, and not too pricey, either. I liked Oblivion's DLC in that I wouldn't feel I was missing anything if I didn't get it, but if I wanted it it would add something nice.

SO anyway: I hope they do some fallout 3 style DLC for TES V, maybe coupled with some smaller content mods like they did for Oblivion. I'd still want a nice thick expansion though.

Thats just asking to be pirated. Which I did.

 Someone who steals software can hardly claim the moral hgh ground on rip-offs....

They can do as much episodic crap as thy want, as long as they make a decent expansion for it. Then again, if they make the game big and stable enough already without expansions, I might not feel I need to buy them.

Some infractions will cause instant termination of your account, such as admitting you have pirated or will pirate any software/media or causing a major disruption in the forums.

I strongly suggest you edit that out. Besides, Turns-the-page is right; your post fits in well with the irony department.
