CTDs, missing fonts and other weird problems

Recently cleanly reinstalled oblivion + shivering isles + latest SI patch. I then modded my game with FCOM and all other kinds of mods. I went to play the game through OBSE and it gets to the main screen but there are no fonts! I can still click on the buttons though, so I tried to start a new game but it crashed. I thought it must be a problem with DarkUI Darnified (which I had installed properly INCLUDING the fonts in the ini), so I deactivated the omod for it and then Oblivion would not start at all, even with all mods deactivated and on normal launcher, it would just CTD, suggesting it relied on Dark UI darn to even run. So I reinstalled Dark UI Darn and oblivion loads up fine (still crashes when I try to start a new game). I load up all my mods and launch OBSE and I get the exact same problem I started with, no fonts! I run it without OBSE and the fonts are there, suggesting there is a mod in OBSE that conflicts with Darn, but I have no clue what it could be.

So 2 problems:
Need fonts to appear when using OBSE
Need to get rid of CTD when starting a new game.

Heh, nice to see another FCOM + TIE user. I'm not sure what's causing your problem (aside from maybe install order), but I can recommend the following:

0D HrmnsOblivionScriptOptimizationv1.0.esp <--- Get rid of this. It's buggy and useless.

If your game is crashing on start, chances are it's a problem with the fonts - I had the same thing happen to me when I first installed Phinix DarkUI. The ini entries must match A font (it doesn't matter which one, as long as it's there) in the Fonts folder. As I recall, I had to do some kind of tweaking (besides changing ini entries - it might've been installing different fonts) to get things to work properly. I use:

SFontFile_1=Data\Fonts\Kingthings_Regular.fnt
SFontFile_2=Data\Fonts\Kingthings_Shadowed.fnt
SFontFile_3=Data\Fonts\DarN_Kingthings_Petrock_16.fnt
SFontFile_4=Data\Fonts\Daedric_Font.fnt
SFontFile_5=Data\Fonts\Theo_Kingthings_Petrock_18_DarNified.fnt

3 and 5 are the altered ones; the other three are stock. Sorry, I know I'm being vague, but it's somewhere to start. :)

Have you used mods before? Do you have the fonts you are trying to use installed? It sounds like DarN is not properly installed. Remove OMOBS Optional Combat Settings, it is included in OOO. Cut down you mod list while you troubleshoot. Make sure Oblivion+OBSE is working, then add DarN, then add FCOM, then add everything else after testing FCOM. I highly suggest adding "everything else" incrementally.
