I've got a wierd problem. I'm posting in this forum, because I'm using the Unofficial Patches, so the game isn't 'pure vanilla' oblivion, and also, I figure the modders would be the people most likely able to diagnose the problem.

So, anyhow, pretty simple - I have a spell to train my conjuration (it casts Bound Helmet on Self for 1 second), trying to get it to level 25 (I've decided it's time to begin training all the magic schools to at least 25 on this character, and eventually I think I'll train to 75).

The problem is, the instant I reach 25, and the little window is supposed to popup informing me I'm now an Apprentice in Conjuration, Oblivion Crashes to the Desktop. Yeaaargh. . .

I've tried moving from one cell to another, and the crash happens in both cells.

So, what am I to do?

I think I've figured it out. My training spell is a "Bound Helmet" with duration one second. I had an altar-enchanted Glass Helmet equipped on my head, which gets briefly replaced by the bound helmet, then automatically re-equipped when the spell expired. Well, somehow the crash is related to that interaction, I believe, because I decided to try manually unequipping the glass helmet, so my head was not covered when not wearing the bound helmet, and that seemed to get me past the crash.
