Chauncey Freeze

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:33 pm

Anyone had this one? Every time I try to talk to Chauncey, or even go near him, in the Steam Room or Bath House, the game freezes. Completely reproducible.

I don't know if anyone from Obsidian or Bethesda looks at these posts, but in case they do, I've found the problem: there's something wrong with the 'getdistance' function as used in Chauncey's dialogue. Removing that condition I was able to talk to him with no problem.

Chaumcey was dead when I found him, then fell out of the ceiling in the bath house when I went 'at that time'.

Can you tell us where to go to edit the condition?

I am having the exact same issue. When I try to talk to Chauncey the game crashes. I read in another Forum that if you get real close to him the game doesn't crash, but I had no luck with that. The game was working perfectly before this latest patch. Now I have one file that says it cannot verify and I have unistalled and reinstalled the game 3 times now. No luck.

If you could tell us how to modify that getdistance function it would be much appreciated.

I've uploaded my fix here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37368 It's very, very basic, just removing the condition, so he will now talk to you outside the steam room.

That's odd, because what you're describing is exactly what happened to me. Are you abolutely sure you're loading the mod?

In that case there's only two things I can suggest:

1) Change the load order - maybe those other mods that follow are affecting it
2) You have a different problem that looks identical!

People have been selling their unused pre-order DLC activation codes so it is actually possible to have all the pre-order DLC installed using legitimate codes.

Getting back on topic, I kept on crashing around Chauncey, tried the mods but talking to him was never the problem. Found the culprit to be the steambath itself. Upon the latest crash, fire up the launcher, options, advanced tab, water, and deselected everything and set to minimums. Solved the crash problems that I could routinely reproduce before in the steambath, so it is definitely an implementation issue of the steam, water, npc's swimming in it or some combination of it.

Hope that is helpful to other folks until this gets fixed.

I've had other people say the same thing. I think there's more than one problem: one seems related to the water - a problem I haven't had - and one related to Chauncey himself.
