Are Dragon Shouts redundant?

Supposedly you will learn an effect and then be able to manipulate it as necessary. How is that the same as buying a static spell?

How is learning an effect and then manipulating it into a handful of specific effects any different than just buying those specific effects?

Basically the new system is buying a static spell, or static spell packages. The fire spell package gets you 5 or so specific fire spells. You aren't manipulating the fire spell to do X, you are doing nothing more than hotkeying between flame thrower and fireball. So basically I give up spellmaking so that instead of buying flamethrower, fire trap, fireball and PBAoE fireball at 200 gold each, I buy the Fire spell at 800 gold, and I learn each of the previous spells at once.

Great deal, I gained nothing and lose something.

I always liked custom spell crafting but after hearing Todd's explanation I understand and agree with removing it. I'd rather have unique spells and not be able to craft than generic ones with crafting.

Just my two cents.

Wow, clever come back., I actually read what they said about magic, you might want to try it. And try and not to fall for the slight of hand crap and pay attention to the actual details. So, go ahead and try to explain how what I said was wrong. Will the fire spell bake you a cake or something or does it have defined specific effects like they stated in the interviews. Does me hitting shift left click somehow make it more magical than if I hit hot key 3 then left click?

The fact the now we actually have flamethrower, fire trap, fireball and PBAoE fireball, instead of just fireball, AoE fireball and firetouch is a big improvement. And this is just the fire spell, other spells will have completely different effects.

So why can't Fire damage encompass those forms of fire damage, and you twine that into your own custom spell :hubbahubba:

Post limit.

If people are able to cool off a bit a new iteration is fine.
