Patch 1.2 makes FalloutNV unplayable - What is gamesas d

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:12 pm

What is gamesas doing about the fact that the 1.2 Patch makes FalloutNV unplayable
and we as users cannot install FalloutNV with version 1.0 since through Steam and the
activation process only version 1.2 is available to us.

FalloutNV crashes CTD when starting a new game / or loading a saved game.

A constructive and helpful answer would be highly appreciated
since we paid for the product and simply demand and have the right to also receive
a working version.

So I got the Fallout 1.1 version copied it in

deleted all prefs

checked the game cache resulting in the following report:

Starting validation of Fallout New Vegas
Validation failure: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\InstallScript.vdf
Validation failure: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\FalloutNV.exe
Validation complete: 431 Total Files, 2 Failed Validation

Steam does not re-acquire anything

and FalloutNV still crashes at the same spot - position.

Dear gamesas or moderators.

since you have deleted few posts already here is a polite question:

Here is a thought.

How about posting the exact nature of your crash and your DXDiag. Chances it has already been solved.

Chances are that I had this already posted in the technical forum but here it is again:

A dev said in the game update thread stickied above and I quote:
"After updating to v 1.2.0, if you're having issues opening New Vegas, try re-verify the files.

Quote
1) Open Steam
2) Right click on Fallout: New Vegas
3) Hit Properties
4) Click the "Local Files" tab
5) Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

If that doesn't work, delete your ini files and repeat steps 1-5"

For me 1.2 makes the game more stable (not that I was having much trouble to begin with). Tata

This is not an issue of opening FalloutNV

it is an issue of starting a new or loading a saved game.

I deinstalled the following apps:

Gimp
Inkscape

DIVX
Linksys USB DVI adapter

FalloutNV works now, how far it is stable I do not know.
I read a lot about codec issues, so I assume maybe it was the DIVX.

While with our without non of this should crash FNW.

Tomorrow i will reinstalled the above selectively and see what FNV will do.

Actually...that would be a game called Hour of Victory.
Well....sort off...it was released while it was still in the Alpha phase.

Moderators are not Bethesda employees. We are volunteers who help with the forums. We don't have access to any more information than anyone else does. If you check the link on the main index page http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=leaders you can find the list of administrators. You can pm Gstaff or Nick Breckon, the Community Managers. They do work for Bethesda.

Over the weekends and on U. S. holidays chances are very low that you will see any "official" answers; not all businesses are open on the weekends or holidays.

I haven't noticed any issues with my game yet; I just finally gave in and allowed the game to update. I hadn't patched it up to this point, since I hadn't had any of the serious bugs. I haven't noticed any issues with the new patch so far; it seems to be a little more stable at this point. I know that doesn't help people who are experiencing problems. I wouldn't want to have to be the people who have to find out why users like me aren't having serious issues and others with the same or possibly better set-ups are. I do think they are working on it.

5) Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"
This tells me that one file failed to verify and would be reacquired... then nothing happens, nothing is downloaded. :unsure2:

And of course the obligatory follow-ups are:
  • what fixes are in/out/maybe for the patch - specifically PC :hubbahubba:
  • how does Bethesda define "soon" in terms of days/weeks/months/years

A constructive and helpful answer would be highly appreciated
since we paid for the product and simply demand and have the right to also receive
a working version.
Find a set of cobbled drivers for your laptop(try on guru3d). You might be able to play it then, but gaming on laptops is always hit or miss.

I started having a huge increase in crashes as well after the last patch. One thing I tired that *appeared* to help was putting the bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads= 2 change into the FalloutPrefs.ini. I had originally changes Fallout_default.ini and although Fallout.ini reflects the changes I'm not sure the settings take correctly.

I say "appeared" to help because while the frequency of crashes decreased siqnificantly, I'm finding most crashes are driven by bugs related to certain areas and events that I did before the last patch. The Chauncey steam room meeting at the Ultra-Luxe was one of the worst, I had to re-start and re-retry it 8 times before I finally made it through enough to advance the quest without a crash. So far after more than 20 hours of play with the the FalloutPrefs.ini change the crash frequency is much lower.

This whole deal with the 3 .ini files is quite confusing. It would be really help if Obsidian/Bethesda would explain which one does what...or better yet patch the game so the ideal .ini settings are applied from the start. I have Fallout 3 on the same box, latest patches, and it would crash every 10-15 minutes until I made the .ini file changes...after the change it might crash once every 4-5 horus.

The patch has made my game more crashy. No crashes before, now one a session since patching. Sure it made performance slightly better but it still laggy and stuttery in places. I hope that next patch fixes all this stuff.

Are you "unfixing" whatever you changed that has caused many ATI users to have low FPS problems we didn't have before?

The patch helped a lot of ATI users as well. With my HD 5850 I was getting low fps anytime there were more than 5-6 actors on screen before. Now I'm pretty stable everywhere with higher settings. Running win 7 x64.

Ok, I tried the following last night and starting a new game and I'm seeing significant performance improvements and not a single crash after 4 hours of play. My system is a Core i7 with a NVidia GTX-295.

- I had already removed the DX9 DLL hack (never did anything for me anyways and isn't needed with the last patch).

- Opened the launcher and set the video settings back to Ultra High. if you have much older video card try the recommended. Even if you have already set this before try doing it again after the patch as I suspect the patch may have changed how the INI files are set based the video quality setting.

- I used 1280x1024 resolution instead of 1600x1200. I will test 1600x1200 again later.

- I left HDR on and v-sync off.

- Changed Fallout.ini (remove read-only), AND FalloutPrefs.ini AND Fallout_Default.ini with the following (Some will likely be already set):
bBackgroundLoadLipFiles = 1
bLoadBackgroundFaceGen = 1
bBackgroundCellLoads = 1
bLoadHelmetsInBackground = 1
iBackgroundLoadLoading = 1
bBackgroundPathing = 1
bBackgroundNavmeshUpdate = 1
bCloneModelsInBackground = 1
bUseThreadedBlood = 1
bUseThreadedMorpher = 1
bUseThreadedTempEffects = 1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem = 1
bUseThreadedAI = 1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen = 1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees = 1
bMultiThreadAudio = 0
iNumHavokThreads = 5

So far I've been to the areas and buildings around Goodsprings, Primm, and the NCRCF without any crashes.

I forgot to mention that even with the latest patch I'm still getting this annoying problem with the gun animation appearing in the wrong place, vanishing, or jerk around vertically when crounching. If I stand up it resets for a bit but often comes back later. Seems to happen alot with the rifles.

Has anyone found a workaround or fix for this?
