Will we have hats?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:54 pm

Before I go to sleep tonight I thought I would pose a question. Do you think after the 200 years between Skyrim and Oblivion, someone finally invented headwear that doesn't wrap around your face? I know Fallout 3 had some hats, but I can't for the life of me remember seeing a person wearing a hat without having a buzzcut. Idk if the buzz is just a default model or not I never really noticed until now. I know the major limitation here was on the rendering of hair in previous games. The headpieces actually made hair disappear to prevent clipping issues. I wonder though, seeing how it appears in http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/115/1158651/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-20110330052314715.jpg that there is hair under the helmet, although it could be another default texture thing.

I'm up in the air on this, all I know is I want to keep my head warm and dry without wrapping my entire face in steel or dressing like a mage. You would think that in 5 years someone figured out how to make the models detect when and where the hair collides and not render anything beyond that. But idk, what do you guys think?

Sure in Fallout 3 and New vegas there were plent of hats/helmets wearable with your hair. Most of it will be covered except for the back side of coarse.

Then again trying ti remember I feel a little unsure about it.

But yes sure there'll be a multitude of headware and hats.

While we're at it I want something truely attrociously anti-ES(Or in this forum's members language: Anti-Morrowind.)

A Cuban Cigar.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that hair no longer disappears under helmets and hoods, so it's possible.

I’ve always envisioned my character wearing a Fedora. I’d probably have to tie it down while dragon hunting... (Aka, stumbling upon a massive lizard and running like hell.)

Also, Bethesda, I would really appreciate it if you guys added one of http://www.hatsshop.co.cc/images/cheap-delux-penguin-face-wool-pilot-animal-cap-hat-with-ear-flaps-and-poms-free-shipping-orders-now-save.jpg.

I'd love for hats to make a comeback. They're fun, and personable.

Look at the screenshot posted in this thread, it's pretty clear that it doesn't. Now, there's another thread debating that it doesn't look very good, but that's another subject, good or bad, it's definitely there, so yes, your hair is still visible under helmets in Skyrim, which was the main problem with having hats in previous games. You could maybe argue that you wouldn't be able to see your hair when wearing a helmet because it covers the hair, I'd argue this isn't always the case, but at least no hair in a helmet doesn't look as awkward as a hat without hair would.

This certainly doesn't prove hats are in, no screenshots have shown them, at the very least, but it does, at least, mean they'd be feasible, at the very least, it likely means that modding them in wouldn't be difficult.

did people wear a lot of hats in medieval-ish times? I don't think there were too many "sylish" hates, mostly just farmer hats and whatnot. I know this is not our world, so it doesn't REALLY matter but most kinds of hats would feel out of place.

Colovian Fur hat, and the Vivec boat-service hats seemed fine. so maybe a couple new hats.

maybe an animal hat, like a coon-hat but for TES.

As a matter of fact, yes they did. Especially women.

You know that stereo-typical princess what? The tall cone with the gauzey streamers hanging off the top? That was a real style women use to wear.

Since the Colovian fur helm has already been mentioned, how about a sombrero? A nice one, at least two metres across.

I hope we'll get a variety of hats, like wizard hat and banana hat and the one you said :D

A return of hats to the game would be wonderful! Especially if they have some really nice ones. Morrowind hats made me sad, haha.

Isnt the old man in the village who leans on the porch have a hat on?...i dont see why it wouldnt be wearable...unless it was super important like the kings robes or the dragon amulet...lol "you try the hat on but it falls right off your head"

Man, there's just gotta be hats. Robin Hood hats, pirate hats, cowboy hats(!)...

I also approve of this post:

No one can sincerely claim that they wouldn't want http://content9.flixster.com/photo/11/69/85/11698583_gal.jpg in their game.

With improved hair and helm physics and a better understanding of gear locations and thus how to program it (better developers), I'm sure there will be some improvement in this area. Or the simple idea that helms in general are designed differently in Skyrim, compared to Oblivion, so that the helm is a solid item that the hair cannot penetrate (ooh that sounded like an epic battle at Troy).

I liked the Mage's Hood in Oblivion. It weighed 0 lb and maybe me look awesome. But then you got identical hoods of different colors, the Mythic Dawn Hood and other hoods that weighted as much as 3 lb, I mean WTF xD

I didn't realize that red color dye was so heavy. But then again, blood does contain Iron, so I guess it makes sense (well, not really).

Hats, crowns, tiaras, knee boots that aren't armour, gloves that aren't armour, more robes, more shoes, more clothes, more hats, and even more shoes and hats.Go on, you know it makes sense.
