Steam versus Waiting for package tomorrow?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:26 pm

My mother ordered FNV for me from Amazon. It is to arrive at release date. That probably means mid-day tomorrow.
So if I bought the game from Steam too could i begin playing it and using the New Vegas GECK way before if i waited for the delivery?

I have an important mod I wish to release first is all.

If you really want to waste $50 bucks that would work, but instead of throwing around money like it doesn't exist and wasting the money your mother already spent, why not just wait 12 extra hours for the package. Trust me, people will be to busy playing to mod the first day anyway. You'll be fine.

Still it sends a more widely heard message if I can release my cool mod like half hour or less after the game goes live. 12 hours is a very long time, someone might open the New Vegas GECK and make an idiotic hacked pistol then upload it and be like FIRST!! That makes me feel demoralized.

Look, I happen to know that you are a good modder with a good reputation (if you are who I think you are), but doing something just to be first, especially spending $50 to be first, is, to be blunt, stupid.

I thought you had a certain mod you wanted to get out first. If you are doing this just to put out the first mod, stop right there, because that sort of thing doesn't get any respect from me, and suspect not from others as well.

I'd say its your money and to do what you want, but since your mother already used her money to buy the game once, it is her money you are wasting if you do this, so I will say, don't do it.

I'm quite sure you could use both.

And as for steam questions, let's keep them in one place. As you can see, the board is a mess already with multiple threads about the same thing. :)
