midnight release launch?

Anti-piracy. Registering a game on Steam locks it to that account, preventing friends from sharing the game around.

Ahh I see, I guess that makes sense. I hope this doesn't mean a retail version will end up being "locked" until steam's version is available. That would make me a very sad panda.

Retail versions are always locked until Steam has it available, but they've started preventing long loading times etc. by making major games available at midnight on the day of release.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a midnight release then doesn it? :sadvaultboy:

On the one hand I suppose so, but you'll still be able to play the game pretty much as soon as you get home as long as Steam doesn't have a major breakdown.

Are you required to run Steam every time you play as well? Or is it just a one time auth process?

I think you need to be running Steam, but you DON'T need to be connected to the internet. Although I'm not sure, because I automatically sign in to Steam whenever I want to play a PC game.

Bleh, I guess the days of installing a game and just playing it are long gone, hopefully the game is good enough that I won't mind having a 3rd party program open and svcking up resources while I play. (I know its not a big deal, just kinda anol about that kind of thing)

I too got the call and thought it was extreamly nice of them to alert everyone that preordered that they were doing this.. In Nebraska myself so maybe all Gamestops that hit a certain order rate did this..... Be sure to thank em when you pick up your game heh.

Where in Nebraska?

I'm super excited for this, and on a side note, my shakes and hallucinations from waiting are starting to get better.

You're right to think of the days simple install+play as being gone. They are. But don't worry, once you've got into a game's engine on Steam, Steam itself takes a background role, using up very little resources. It's still a great way to play.

I called my EB store, and sadly they said "no", not enough pre-order sales. They said they would for Call of Duty or something like that. They may open an hour early though tomorrow. So no midnight release for me or anyone in my area.

Too blinded by anticipation to think clearly.

i live in Orlando. I have F:NV pre-loaded into steam.

My local Game Spot is having a midnight release party.

If I buy the hardcopy from GameSpot, can i play and load right at midnight?

Would I still have to wait until 3am EDT for the steam version to unlock?

I have a case of Red Bull standing by for my own 'unofficial' quest "The 1st 24 Hours" - 24 hours of gameplay between midnight monday to midnight tuesday.

This three hour delay is messing with my plans.

Hey I live in Orlando too! Which GS are you going to?

I thought I was the only Fallout fan in Orlando :bonk:

I'm pretty sure I'll be the only guy at my midnight launch. I went to the RDR Midnight launch and I was the only one there :cryvaultboy:

Here's what I do and will do today.. I go in and pay it off around noon.. then I time it so I arrive at the midnight release exactly around midnight. I've pre-ordered so I don't have to worry about them selling out and I don't have to stand around a store for two hours or wait in line that long. Once they start the release they usually get everyone out of there in about half an hour.. It's just a matter of going in and picking up your stuff. There's no reason to go and wait in a silly line for a couple of hours unless you didn't pre-order and your scared of them selling out. I also order from gamestop.. the ones here assign only one store with a midnight release because there's not enough people buying it at midnight to have to worry about having all the stores open. For some reason most people go to Best Buy around here. It's like they don't even know gamestop exists.

No call. I know Game Stop is very strict about not letting anything leave the store until midnight.

Im going for the midnight release. Ive had the game pain off for months. What I will do is go home and pass out for about 5 hours this evening after work. Wake up about 10:30 or 11. I will go into the store to "check in" and get my number in line. I will then run to Del Taco or somewhere similar and pick up dinner and a big ol drink. I will return to the Gamestop about midnight to pick up the game. Then it is off to my house to enjoy. Man I CANT WAIT!!!!
