Kinect For Oblivion

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:10 pm

On a whim I went to see if Kinect had any capability for the computer, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62wj8eJ0FHw My technical experience is to say the least limited, but there website seems to indicate it's pretty much ready to go, and anyone willing to throw something together for Oblivion could probably do so pretty easily. Any thoughts?

I don't think this would work well. I mean, the technical aspect could work out fine, but it probably wouldn't be too popular.

My thought is, whats the point. Anyone who just throws something together would be making a terrible game you would have to spend 2-3 years working on a game for it and not only that it still wouldn't be nearly as good as what Microsoft will be releasing for Kinect, so it really doesn't matter if it is usable on the computer.

Also one more thing, this is the wrong place for this topic it should have been placed in the community discussion forum.
(EDIT)
And I would vote no on the poll but you had to add the pointless comment at the saying you don't like Microsoft waaa......
So No this is thread/idea is not cool.

? Its not a game, its just a different way to control the game. Its just like using a gamepad instead of a keyboard and mouse, the kinect recognizes your movements as keystrokes.
And no I meant to put it here, it would be a modification for oblivion, I'm not just showing off the video lol

I see, but in that case still whats the point so you can wave your arms around sitting in your computer chair instead of clicking the mouse to swing your sword?
I am 99.9 percent POSITIVE no one will want to do that.

Well no, you wouldn't exactly be sitting down...
Have you ever used a kinect? Its actually a lot of fun, and all the games out there are just silly little arcade games right now. It'd be kinda like that zelda game on the wii where you use the nunchucks to swing the sword.

I'm not seeing any mod potential here nor anything to "throw together", according to the video and their site, they have created the middleware software and released it, and it can be configured for off the shelf titles, so nothing to modify for Oblivion. You hook up your Kinect, download the Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (and required resources), and then run the keystroke setup for whatever game title you'd like, and play.

I call shenanigans on this poll.

This poll is biased due to lack of an effective "no" option, therefore I refuse to vote.

I still have yet to see anyone who has managed to pull off motion-sensing controls well that is not Nintendo, and therefore remain convinced (until proven otherwise, of course) that motion-sensing controls are nothing more than a fad. Even then, such controls do not belong in Oblivion. To answer honestly: no, I do not think this is a cool idea.

I think if this is serious, then a less biased poll should probably be made.

One with at least one non-flame-bait option.
