How accessible are mountains?

It'll probably as easy- or easier most likely- than OB. I could scale any mountain in OB, and almost any in Fallout

The 1st level of Modern Warfare 2 come to mind. Where you have the duel ice picks climbing the mountain side.

If the gameplay trailer is representative, then there's gonna be a few vertical and almost-vertical slopes in Skyrim.

Its not clear yet exactly what is meant by Skyrim is 'about' as big as Oblivion. It is also said that anything you can see in Skyrim is traversable. If that is true, it would seem that one way or another you can climb every mountain in the game. No more invisible walls. However I cant seem to track down a direct source anywhere with that quote. Does anyone know where this claim is coming from?

Todd Howard to IGN- It's always hard to compare size in games this big, but it has about the same amount of geography and content as Oblivion. I say "about" because the scale always changes some, and things like mountains change how that geography feels, and the time it takes you to get to and from places.

Perhaps they say it is ABOUT the size as Oblivion, because it is actually larger but some steep mountains are not accessible. From some of the screenshots it seems like that could be possible. Or maybe the overall size is slightly smaller but the mountains add more space vertically, allowing just as much ground space to be placed on a smaller sized map.

Or it could mean something entirely different. Who knows.

What people do not want is inaccessible areas. If you player Age of Conan, you got a great view of the terrain which had mountains and all.....yet you could not climb them. They were visible invisible walls. Anything that takes away freedom of movement or freedom of exploration is a bad thing, and if the mountain system in this game is just a bunch of barriers you cannot climb, forcing you to go a few ways, then they have failed big time.

I want to be able to see a big mountain, go to it and climb it. There may be nothing at the top, it may take ten minutes or an hour, I just want the option of being able to fully explore the world and that includes the Z Axis. If that means they have some sort of mountain climbing system where certain slopes are climbable and certain ones are not unless you have some climbing perks, well that is good.

My gut feeling is that most of the mountains are barriers and you cannot climb them. They would be touting the ability to climb mountains if it were a game system. In a game that is so mountainous, that would be a pretty big thing. My hope is that a modder can make some sort of climbing system complete with animations that let players traverse the entire world map.

My biggest worry is that you can climb mountains the same way you could in Oblivion. You could run up like a 60 degree incline without falling off. Which is ridiculous. Then if you were on a horse you could go up anything. You could even climb what looked like an 80 degree incline. That made no sense and needs to be revamped, but didn't Beth say they were adding climbing? Or did they take that out? (or not say it at all lol)? That would make it better I'm sure.

Go find a hill that is tilted 60 degrees. If you cannot climb that, then maybe you shouldn't be allowed... on the... internet. A 60 degree slope is totally climable. Albeit slow to climb, and it would be tiring, you could do it. 80 Would be MUCH harder if not impossible. But I dont remember anything tilted that much that was climbable in the game. (Then again I havent played it in like 2 years.)

Space Bar. Space Bar. Space Bar. Space Bar. Space Bar. Space Bar. Space Bar.

I hope you can't do that, but if invisible walls are going to exists, I shouldn't notice them, as I hate being stopped when it LOOKS like I can go somewhere.

I hope they add a climbing feature, so if i get stuck below and cliff just above my jumping height, I could scale it, instead of running around the mountain looking for a pathway. If their aren't any hand holds, use some ice picks. If you can't penetrate it, its unscalable.

Oh, and remove invisible walls, unless its the border of the map, then I don't really care.
