I love them, and as far as I can see the architecture would fit right into Skyrim, maybe with tweaks.

Thoughts?

Some of the architecture as seen in the trailer looks very similar to that actually.

Yeah I remember the smithy-looking building (night shot) with lights coming from inside. It's nice, not nearly tall enough though :P

Skyrim is not a Viking living history museum, and doesn't need to be overdosed with Viking culture. (and my personal opinion is, is that building looks ugly.)

Of course it isn't. But it is certainly the main inspiration for Nords, and as far as I can see from the trailer, this isn't far off from what will be seen.

Also, I didn't imply a carbon copy of it. The look of the building may be ugly to some, but it is 1,000 years old, made of wood, and perfectly preserved in one of the harshest climates in the western world. Which is a bit impressive IMO.

Again, these two large buildings in the back look very similar in style, but with an early European Cathedral feel.

Im willing to bet Skyrim will have a comprehensive construction set, and thats where your building can come into existence. The Elder Scrolls has a huge amount of lore surrounding it, and any development time focusing on a Viking building for a Viking religion would quickly be backstepping out of the existing lore.

I don't intend to whine about it not being in, it's a simple suggestion. When designing meshes for the architecture in the Imperial City, don't you think devs looked at art from the Roman empire? Of course they did. I do give credit where it's due, and I know Beth does their research (like the 10 books on Vikings in the background during an interview) but I'm sure a small addition to the pool can't hurt. After all, they may still miss stuff they'd love to put in.

I have suggested skis, snow shoes, stave temples and that's it. I don't see how that tells you I would lay down and cry if I didn't get them.

(I would however be quite miffed if you can traverse deep snow in metal boots at 100% speed.)

EDIT: Stave Temples, not Steve Temples... Derp.

I don't think hes implying that you're gonna rage through Bethesda's front door if your suggestion isn't put in. Hes just saying Skyrim is not being modeled after real life Viking culture, which its not.

Not modelled after, but inspired by.

Which is why I post a pretty picture of a pretty viking building... Inspiration.

Nord architecture and Religion is heavily influenced by Norse architecture and religion. When you look at the concept art room in one of the videos they've shown, you'll see a shelf with nothing on it but books about vikings. They obviously don't want to make an exact replica of Viking civilization, they need to add different ideas and influences to make it unique to Tamriel and the inhabitants of Skyrim.

I mean even the word Nord comes from the word Nordic, a word pertaining to Germanic peoples belonging to Northern Europe.

Also, though it is Nord lands, there most surely will be pockets of concentrations of other races, especially Dunmer and Orcs. And then there's the Imperial influence as well.

It doesn't need to be duplicated, but the architecture of that building is beautiful and inherently Scandinavian. In the Elder Scrolls world, it is easily recognized as Nord architecture (If one even looks at the homes in Solsthem, you can see the influence). As it was pointed out, there are buildings like this present in the Skyrim trailer, which makes me pretty happy to see beautiful architecture like this. The defining element of this particular building though, which I think separates it from most buildings I've seen so far from Skyrim, is the rounded segment and the fact that the shingled roofing style stretches up the entire building, even on parts that are nearly completely vertical.

I pretty much agree with this. Im not even really sure what vikings have to do with Skyrim??? Just because Nords have some simularity with viking culture doesnt mean they have ANYTHING to do with it. We may as well put McDonalds restaraunts in Skyrim based on the understanding that people in TES eat food.

P.S.- lBurnsl I LOVE your sig. Lolz

That is a pretty awesome building.

I'd love to see something similar in the game.
