Different arenas, different towns.

I definitely enjoyed the arena in oblivion. Joining it was the first thing I did. However, you start out in the imperial city, and their are no other arenas in Cyrodiil. Now, in Gladiator, Maximus started out in the provinces before being ready for the big league colleseum in Rome. So instead of all fights in just one big arena in the capital, how about each town has its own arena? You would have to complete a tournament in each one like the mages guild recommendations before going to the solitude championship arena.

Also, each arena should be different.

Solitude would be similar to the Imperial City's arena. However, Markath's might be assymmetrical craggy rocks and crevices. Whiterun might have frozen ponds that reduce balance and are easier to be staggered on, with pillars of ice acting as obstacles. Another might be foresty, with trees and platforms amongst them, for an arial acrobatical event. And one might be ringed in lava, with hot damaging geysers firing off periodically. That way, you would always have a reason to visit the other arenas even if they don't pay as much.

Also, each arena should offer different fights. Solitude would always offer playable races to fight, but the other arenas once you beat their associated questline would have creature fights. The creatures that you fight would depend on the area in which the arena is located, e.g. fighting snow trolls in Whiterun, wolves in te foresty one.

I totally agree with your idea on all except one point--instead of only one match in each city, I think you should have a series of matches before you are considered ready for the big arena in the capital city.

I'm sorry, but the OP does say a tournament in each city, not an individual match.

Ah, yes. Sorry, my mistake. Then I agree with everything! (I misread the OP...)

If you listen to the podcast http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/04/01/the-bethesda-podcast-oblivion-5th-anniversary-special/
They mention how at first in Oblivion there was an Arena in every city, but they had to cut it do to lack of room on the disk (this hopefully won't be a problem with the new disk formats for 360). Hopefully, they will take the opportunity to do the same in Skyrim, knowing that they have more room.

Their original idea for Elder Scrolls I: ARENA was similar to this, but on an even larger scale. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to implement it in skyrim. in fact I believe they will. Skyrim is the perfect place for barbaric arena battle-pits

I actually dont really like the arena so im hoping I dont see one in every town I go to. Im fine with one for the people who do enjoy it, but i'd rather it not be one of the staple buildings in the major towns i visit is all.

This was the original idea in Oblivion (I think it was Oblivion), however it was quickly discarded after play-testing. It didn't work out, and was agreed upon to be not as much fun.

I'd love for Skyrim to expand upon the Arena concept, however I think it should still be just a single arena.

There were Arena's in every city for early Oblivion, amongst other things, however the dialog took up too much space...sooo deleting dialog that reffered with the Arena also ment removing the arena's...ahh such is the cost for....voice acting.

Was it worth it?

Lore suggests Skyrim has Pits where fighters duke it out across the province....so if they stick to lore....we should have a few.

I hope Bethesda read these Threads, since i really like the idea of going to the Mini Cities and fight in the Arenas till i get to the Main Arena in the Main City where everything goes Gladiator style. :P

I want to be Entertained in each City, not have some Major Arena in one place.

I remember in Oblivion that we went to each Fighters Guild (like the Wizards Guild) for Quests and stuff, but we Never went to Bruma and Bravil, why did we skip those Guilds.

I think each city should have its own unique things to do, rather than having an arena in each one. Honestly that kind of takes away from the whole point of the gladiator/arena feeling if you ask me, let alone its kind of a cheap way to have entertainment in each town. I wouldnt mind underground fighting rings, but there should be one GRAND arena to serve them all.

Id much rather have a single arena that perhaps is its own small town or 'hold' similar to Fable 1. It gave fighting a much more grander appeal to the whole arena aspect, making becoming the champion much more interesting and realistic. If anything they should just completely revamp the arena battles as opposed to OB, where you could only battle a few crappy creatures one you became champion.

I also think the arena should be featured somewhere you will normally find it mid-game, rather than in the first town you start in. But then again, I also hope that we dont start in the largest town again.

Never been a fan of the arena, but I hope they add it so I can watch matches and so you guys will be happy. It would fit the setting of Skyrim very well in my opinion. :)

I think the arena should have a deep pit in the middle, and when you finish your enemy you either kick or drag them down the hole. It would help a bit with the whole "why can't I take their equipment" problem.
