Disguises does nothing?!

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:44 pm

So anyway, I was wearing a powder ganger outfit and went to the correctional facility, hoping they'd think I'm one of them and let me in, but instead the guard sees through it easily and declares I'm not one of them... same thing happened at Helios one, NCR outfit does not even let me in without passing the speech check or butchering all of them so I can finally go in...

am I interpreting the disguise system wrong? I don't think it does any effect on gameplay whatsoever.

Edit: okay, just how does the disguise system work anyway??? I even tried putting on a legion recruit armor (i have bad rep with caesar's legion) and they STILL attack me immediately when I walk into their territory... just... what the...?? is it just me or disguises does nothing??

Guards will see through disguises.

As do dogs and certain important NPCs.

If you want to get past them, don't do any missions that would lower your standing with them until you're done stealing from them and what not. I enjoy starting the game, doing the gecko missions, and then heading over to the prison to sneak kill every single person in the entire prison except for Johnny. I also like to put his guard's heads on his desk before asking if he needs anything done.
Don't bother with disguise except for moving through an unimportant region without being noticed.

Ah, okay... so how does these disguises help me anyway? Doesn't seem to be any of use for me...
and by the way, does sneak kills do not penalize your standing with that faction you just killed?

...I sneak killed an NCR guard and I immediately become hated...

how come?!? @_@ this just doesn't make any sense.

Thanks for clearing that up... T.T
This is quite disappointing though :(

I'm going to go waste some faction that shoots at me anyway no matter what underwear I'm wearing, rather than quick saving-quick loading and caring about their standing.

I agree to an extent. However, you could just think of it as if someone did an investigation into the murder, and discovered who did it, and so its just giving you the evential reputation hit you'd take if there really had been an investigation. Personally, I think if you kill someone in a facility or town that belongs to said group, you should take a rep hit. But if you kill someone out in the wasteland, you should not.

MINOR SPOILER

I had this problem in Camp McCarran, I went to go see an important NPC (who is working for the legion) and he attacked me, I thought that was odd because I'm accepted with the Legion, although hated by the NCR... I guess he didn't want to blow his cover.

You can kill anyone from any faction without a penalty to your standing with them so long as no one realizes you killed that person (no investigations at all). You just can't kill any important characters. I've killed everyone in the prison without anyone figuring out it was me but killing the leader at the end with no one around in the prison makes me lose standing. Also, you have to use a silenced weapon or everyone will come running and attack you regardless of the fact you stealth killed the person.

So far the best use for disguises is to get you attacked by ppl that like you but hate the faction your dressed as. Like going into an ncr camp dressed like legion. So basically no use at all.

Disguises are for when you can avoid guards. Camp McCarran is not an easy place to do so.

If you want to kill the guards, you have to do it from hiding and with a silencer, if you expect to get away with it.
