Kinect for Motion Capturing

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 2:06 am

First i would thank the mod community for the great work everyone here is doing. It′s realy fantastic!

I am watching the development of what could be achieved with Kinect plugged to a pc closely.
Development in the Motion Capturing thing is fast.
So i wonder if Oblivion could have a benefit out of this.
As far as i know hand made animation is realy complicated and slow and mosty not so realistic way to move chars ingame.
Thats where Kinect could come in.
There are free tools that seems to do a fantastic job in Motion Capturing realtime and also saving the animation data for later use.
I dont′t know (because my modding skills are non existend :)) if the data is usable/convertable in anyway as animation files for oblvion but maybe you modders will have a look at this:

Hmm, interesting concept. I'd do it if someone would figure out how to make it possible, and I get a free Kinect. <_<

A freeware application has already been developed for using Kinect with off shelf games like Oblivion apparently. It was discussed just this evening in this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1154791-kinect-for-oblivion/ which contains the link to the demo video on YouTube, the link to where you can download the freeware app is in the video description. Might want to check it out if it's of interest to you. From what I've read there it seems ready to go, no special animations needed. :dance:

@Darkrider
It looks to me like that is just for controlling the game, not motion capture for creating character animations.

Anyway, it would be great if people could make better animations using Kinect. It probably won't have the flexibility of a professional setup but it would be great for small developers who can't afford a full motion capture stage.
You also don't need to wear a wetsuit with white balls on it :tongue:
