Pretty NPCs

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:28 pm

Bethesda has been talking a good deal about how NPCs are going to look pretty this time around. This is a refreshing change from all the ugly people in Oblivion, but I hope that there are at last some ugly people. I mean, the real world isn't filled with only attractive people and I hate it when games are filled with only really good looking people.

There should definitely be unattractive people as well as attractive people. Also, attractiveness should not be limited to nobility... just saying. There can be attractive thieves too.

Discuss.

I think by that, they mean they would all look good graphically in comparison to Oblivion. Besides, what some of the desginers find pretty, you might find ugly.

I think it has more to do with people looking like actual human beings, rather than being attractive

I'm sure there will be plenty of ugly and homely looking characters in Skyrim. I think what they mean is that there will be more NPCs who can be considered attractive, because in OB there seemed to be more NPCs who were...not very attractive. Obviously there shouldn't be an overwhelming number of "hotties" in Skyrim--I don't want it to be Hollywood....

They talked a great deal about how the 'random' face option no longer mean 'ugly'. And seeing as how the NPCs will most likely not all be hand-made, we can expect their faces to look relatively cohesive (as in, features match otehr features, not as a whole). Some will most likely turn out to be good looking, and some will be your average ugliness. I agree with this though, and i wouldnt worry at all, it sounds like they have it down.

Yeah, if you listen to the latest pod cast, they described the Oblivion faces as being smashed in with a potato (or something along those lines). I don't this they are after a bunch of supermodel NPCs, just ones that don't make you go "Gaaahhhhh!!!!" when you look at them.

I don't know if that's reassuring, but look at the old Nord leaning on a fence and staring at the hero in the trailer. Pretty ugly I think :hehe:

A variety between normal, ugly and pretty. Like in real life.

I mean, the "ugly" people in Oblivion weren't ugly ugly, they were "your face is not human" ugly. The all looked more or less like the people of Hackdirt, unintentionally.

What I think they meant by "pretty" was, actually human and realistic way. Oblivion people were too cartoony imo, and none of them were either pretty or badass or even ugly :|

I hope that they mean realistic faces and they will still keep variety in.
