Weird DistantLOD issue

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:43 pm

So I was playing today, haven't made any mod changes in several days and haven't had any issues on this install at all. I was in Anvil getting Fighter's Guild quests and everything was fine. I then fast traveled back to Imperial City, turned around, and saw this. Not only does it look terrible but it makes my video card heat up like crazy. I didn't change any settings and can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it. I've tried toying with settings and the only thing that gets rid of it is disabling Distant LOD completely. I'm currently 30+ hours into this game and haven't had any issues up to this point, all major mods have been installed since day one and the only thing's I've installed since are armor/weapons/other trivial stuff. I haven't actually made any changes to settings, mods, load order, or anything else in three days though.

This link is a screenshot showing what's going on. http://home.swbell.net/raolinx/distantlod.jpg

Thanks for any help, would be nice to be able to see things again.

As an addendum, apparently this is tied to my save game. I started a new game and COC'd to the same location and the flickering and the heat issues are non-existent... I'm thoroughly confused now.

Further Edit: It's apparently also a relatively recent issue. I loaded a game with about four hours less playtime and it's fine.

What LOD mod are you using? Are you using New Roads and Bridges?

I once had a similar case whith RAEVWD in combination with New Roads and Bridges. Arthmoor offered his help, but a thorough investigation was pointless because upon a later revisit to the particular spot, the glitch was not there anymore like you're saying. I decided it was a freak random issue and have since "forgotten" about it.

Definitely looks like some kind of SSAO issue to me. Update/mess around with your OGE and its shaders.

And looks like you're using one of the SSAO shaders from OBGE, if that's the case, then I think I agree that it looks like a problem with that. I once had a similar issue when testing out one of the SSAO shaders before, at least it looked similar, I don't know how it effected my graphics card since I quickly turned it off once I saw that.

Just saying I'm not using any of the OBGE shaders in my game.

Thanks for the suggestions, mention of shaders got me on the right track and half an hour messing with OBGE fixed it.
