Checking if OOO is working correctly.

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 2:59 am

Hi People
Started playing Oblivion again, from an old install. Lots of mods already installed - I installed new ones. Most important is the amazing OOO1.33.

I played for a while and found the game relatively easy (I don't remember OOO being easy!), and when I killed a minotaur in lvl 1, I googled the problem.
I found the "getlevel" console command, and began to check out the level of monsters. I hoped that somebody could tell me if these levels are correct?
The player character is lvl 1.

All wolves are lvl 1.
Bandits are lvl 3-4
Goblins lvl 1
Cityguards (chorrol) lvl 15.
Black bear lvl 7.
Dryad Lvl 11
Grizzly Bear lvl 14

If anybody could tell me if the npc-level system in my install of OOO is broken, it would be highly appreciated.
I've googled the problem, but I only get forum posts about that bandits should be "slightly higher lvl than the PC" - (is 4 slightly higher?)

Hope someone can help!

Cheers

Did you start a New Character ?

If you did not Start a New Character

then it sounds like Npc are not leveled correctly if you take them down in a few blows that is..

If you are using Bash then run update npc levels on your save

else trying to wait in a interior cell (like a house you own) for 4 days and see if that helps any otherwise

new character or install bash in order to fix the npc not leveled correclty

Also Update to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119240-relz-oscuros-oblivion-overhaul-133/

I've started several new characters, and done several reinstalls of OOO with OMOD. If the levels hare wrong then it seems that the only option is a complete clean install (50+ mods geez) :(

Thank you for your help!

Post your load order. I remember reading about OOO itself and bandits are supposed to be able to follow you up to level 20 so I guess that means that they are a certain level and will always be that level do you understand?

How do I post my load order without writing it manually?

If you're using 50+ mods and don't have Wrye Bash, then you have other problems. However, I believe you can activate your Oblivion Launcher and get a mod list from that, but I don't recall.

I think I might have a corrupt oblivion install, since the launcher doesn't recognize the installed mods. (they don't show up on the list)
I don't think there is a lot of problems with the mods though - most of them are Unique landscapes and OOO and Supreme Magicka extra ESP's. :/

EDIT: Beginning to write loadorder manually.

The reason why I don't use Wrye bash, is that I can't get it to install properly on my pc (running windows 7). I figured I would do fine without, since most of my mods don't alter the same things (except DLC Tomes and Magic Equioment)

This is not a very good reason as WB works perfectly fine on community members Win7 rigs. :)

Maybe your issues are because of the UAC in Win7 ? The recommended way is to install WB, Python and Oblivion in a directory other than C:/Program Files/... Maybe check out the WB thread and ask if still unclear. But Win7 is not (or should not be) in the way of successful usage of WB!! :)

Edit: corrected the C:/ path name

Yeah I'm on Win7x64, it works fine. Just install the Python and extensions, skip the 275 installer completely, manually install 28whatever and then overwrite that with 290. Works like a charm. But -- no matter what I did I could not get Wrye to work if I installed 275. So if you tried that, that may be your issue. Not a UAC issue in my case, I have it installed on my data drive.

I would (highly) recommend 2.91 over 2.90, based on my experiences. I suppose it's possible that these have been atypical, however...

edit: C:\Games\Oblivion is a mighty fine place to install Oblivion - or some place similar, perhaps. So long as it's NOT "Program Files (x86)\[etc.]" then you should be fine.

Thank you. :) So it seems I have to do a total clean install of the whole thing then?
I don't know which mods to merge, (besides the before mentioned), to fix the problem.
I have the game installed in a folder on the desktop - also a nice place.

I've now done a complete reinstall of oblivion + all the before mentioned mods. Used Boss to sort the list. Still the same results. It seems that enemies added by OOO, are their right level (bandit bowmen har lvl 6 when pc is lvl 1), but original Oblivion enemies levelscale (rats, goblin shaman, wolves are all lvl 1 - skeletons are lvl 2). I'm out of ideas :/ I've googled and read faq's the entire morning.
Any suggestions would be highly appriciated.
