Gender difference?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:36 am

there is no cross dressing super mutant in the game. Tabitha is the only known female super mutant in the game. It comes from a misconception in early articles about New Vegas. They addressed the articles and confirmed she is female.

Actually there's two female super mutants. Lily is another one and she's a companion. Did Fallout 1 and 2 have any female super mutants? I don't recall ever seeing any.

I believe Caesar's Legion is supposed to be "men only," and that their women are slaves. If so, I wonder how a female character will fit in.

Yeah we had a topic specifically about this roughly a week ago, and i think it is unlikely they will block off such a major story branch due to gender, but if they allow it, then it is a massive plot hole.

Knowing women, they can talk themselfs out of everything so that has to have an impact at least on their speech skills

I play as a female only,... but i imagine they could work females in and put them thru "The Pitt" type of thing still... that would be cool

you could impress the legion and thats how you get in, could be different depending on gender, it could also just be a big effin plot hole. i guess we will find out in 20 hours and 5 minutes.

Yeah, we have theorized before that there might be a Colosseum where gladiators duke it out to prove their worthiness.

Soooo.. Do female characters get jiggle physics this time round? I mean, that would be a difference, right? :P

On a more serious note, I hope the game does acknowledge gender difference, but not to an absurd level where every second person will go "OMGWTF You are a [FEMALE]!! See how I noticed it?!?! Pro AI, man!". That (or, in a more moderate way, imbuing the gender variable in every single sentence) would be even more annoying than lack of regard.

Perhaps women may go with http://mamamusings.net/archives/eowyn.jpg. Surely nobody would be able to see through it!

The only differences are appearance and some changes in dialogue. In Fallout 3 female characters were more powerful than males ones because of Black Widow being significantly better than Lady Killer. In FNV however there is the +10% damage to same six perk which will even it up a little.

heh.. but it's a small thing to make sure they say "lady" instead of "sir", "babe" instead of "buddy"... keep it relevant and in character, but just acknowlege there is a difference.

Actually, you know what annoyed (or baffled) me more than that in the game? Once I changed out of powerarmour (I was overloaded) but I forgot to put anything else on, so I played the game for two hours naked. And no-one, male, female, young, old, batted an eyelid! I mean, c'mon... I realise people wear some skimpy stuff in post-apocalyptia, but didn't it occur to anyone that a naked person with a huge drone-cannon is a bit... unusual? lol

aaaanyway....

Someone stood butt naked in front of you with a large gun in their hands (ooer missus) is surely just baiting them to mention it so you can start a ruck.
Therefore they will just ignore it and work around the fact.

If you don't know the difference between genders, maybe best not go into Gomorrah. ;)

They took notice in Morrowind if you were naked. However in Oblivion and Fallout 3 they fail to notice it. I'm guessing it's either either a design oversight or more likely they did not want to acknowledge that you can be naked for rating sakes. Either way it's not a major thing but it is weird.

I'm glad you caught it. Yes, men have Martian citizenship and women have Venusian citizenship. :P

And both are extremely war-like but women somehow always win :/

I never got to play the classics but as far as the story that Bethesda developed I understood it as though all the Super Mutants were female as the males that were put through the procedure to turn them into Super Mutants never survived the experiment. Their just featureless and can't reproduce thats why they were kidnapping people from Big Town anyway. They'd eat the males and take the females to the lab to turn them into Super Mutants.

Overall, besides all references to 'he' 'him' ect changed to 'she' 'her', and a few different perk names (Daddy's Girl, Black Widow, as opposed to the male versions Daddy's Boy and Lady Killer), there wasn't any big difference. Overall, I have to say that that's a good thing (although I think a few groups should treta you different depending on your gender - i.e. a raider group that might, say, welcome a young man into their group might see a young woman as 'prey' for their group, or, say at a casino, a patron there might try to sweettalk a female character, while a male character might have to beat up the same person to get better treatment at the facility.

I have to say it's a good idea that not much changes if you switch gender because then you can play the game how you want to play it, and not have it ruled by the way you ant your character to look.
