I cant be the only one who noticed this.

Okay by now I'm sure we have all seen the trailer many times and I'm sure we all remember the scene where the two characters are fighting by the camp fire(not the one with the finishing move). Maybe my eyes are messing with me, but to me it doesn't even look like the characters blades are even touching each other but they are still getting wounded. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes I have. I'm surprised I haven't seen this discussed either too, btw.

It looks pretty much like how it's been in Morrowind and Oblivion. And to be fair, the video shows the staggering effect, so that animation isn't doing that scene any favors.

Yes it has been discussed, I promise. Its a trailer though so I'll wait until I play the game to make my decisions.

Poke around these forums for a while. They are crawling with people who have pretty much picked apart EVERYTHING, and pointed out more flaws than you can shake a stick at. All for a game that hasnt been released yet.

I personally didn't notice but that doesn't mean anything. For me, success of combat in an RPG should always be dependent upon skills and dice rolls anyway. At least the sword didn't go right through and cause no damage at all, like morrowind combat.

But, I can see why folks not used to such would be bothered by it. For me, it's how a good RPG works.

In a video game, nothing really touches anything. Not even the character's feet really touch the floor, its all an illusion.

And Im using the word touch very loosely here. There's no floor to be touched, and no feet to touch it. Its a game, not hard matter.

That was a poorly translated magazine as I recall.

Let's not get too existential here. We're discussing the illusion in the first place. :P

To me, it looks like we're not seeing the actual swing that cut into the character, but rather the effects of a swing that already took place. The swing it actually shows is not responsible for the blood imo.... Nor is the shield bleeding. I've seen the trailer slowed down (someone posted it a while back) and to me it's clear that the shield bleeding as well as the supposed miss is an illusion due to it being such a quick and partial edit of the video that makes it hard to examine in sufficient detail.

You say that like it's a bad thing. When I was in college, and we did critiques, we'd have to post our work up on the wall, stand in front of the entire studio (and often guests, some of which were professionals), and describe it to them. Then everyone would proceed to rip it apart. Not just the design itself, but also the presentation. Was it painful at times? You better believe it. The projects almost always turned out the better for it, though. Once it's done, it's too late to make changes, so critiques are a lot less useful.
