I'd recommend using http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1146374-relz-companion-compatibility/ instead. Should work with all companions and all mod added enemies. Requires OBSE, though.

Have done so now, on Nexus. Will do so to my web-site as well, but we're currently having severe internet problems, which also affect the server access (I hate dial-up-speed).


So far it works perfectly - and the result is exactly what I want, with my char being the main focus but not weirdly so. For example, my char and Vilja just faced seven Black Bears from MMM. While my char faced most of them in melee and had to focus on that I suddenly heard Vilja shouting and she was facing two of them in close quarters. In short: you tend to get a "natural" mix with most enemies focusing on the PC but Vilja getting in the heat now and then.

Plus http://i55.tinypic.com/10hk0zk.jpg when she even stops and waves you forward when you loiter. :)


Vilja's waving reminded me of a feature I think I've already brought up a bit vaguely, but that gave me an implementation idea as well. Anyway, I'd like to have hotkeys for Vilja to stay and follow, which would be perfect while sneaking or checking out sections in dungeons in advance. I think I mentioned a dogwhistle, but I suspect Vilja would be a bit iffed by that... So what about a configurable "wave forward" hotkey, with a wave animation just as Vilja's - and a configurable "stop" hotkey with a stop animation? Would be quite immersive and realistic, at least as long as Vilja and the PC stays in view.

I also have the same old issue with low fatigue on Vilja, causing panting etc. when using Realistic Fatigue. Her Stamina/Fatigue is 82, which seems low (?). Stamina/Fatigue (Base) is 262. A bit weirdly (?) turning off encumbrance on Vilja does nothing. Perhaps she could come with an optional Fatigue boost just as Health?

Vilja's encumbrance option simply picks whether she can get over-encumbered like the player or if she should be a standard NPC who can carry any amount of equipment. The purpose of Realistic Fatigue is to make the player and all NPCs have penalties related to low health, stamina, and high encumbrance.

Realistic Fatigue provides it's own (complex) system for managing player and NPC fatigue and is completely unrelated to the issue of being over-encumbered in the way that Vilja's setting works. As far as I can tell, there's nothing we can do to affect Realistic Fatigue from within the Vilja mod itself. Realistic Fatigue effectively takes over Vilja's Stamina attribute using it's own scripts and formulas. We gave her a Restore Fatigue ability, but it doesn't help because Realistic Fatigue will "keep fatigue within limits" according to it's own formulas. You can try tweaking the settings for RF or contact Donovan Baarda for suggestions.

Thanks. Come to think of it, I think I asked the same questions a while ago and you answered so sorry for that. Hm, I wonder if it would be possible to make a universal stay/come hotkeys OBSE-mod that would work on anyone in follow mode? Anyway, many thanks for Vilja - she's even more impressive for every release. :foodndrink:

I was attacked by a wraith-like creature from Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul that paralyzes with fear and I believe Vilja was also hit by this creature, as she is now permanently lying on her back, even if I summon her to a new location.

Any suggestion to help her stand up again?

Assuming you have the latest ver 3.0.1 of Vilja: Have you tried casting her Vilja Start Combat spell on her? It should help to reset her AI. If this doesn't help, summon her to a safe interior location and leave her there for +72 game hours. (going somewhere else and just wait +72 game hours should be sufficient). When you return to her, she should hopefully be 'normal' again.

I see that Emma has give you the solution to your problem already. About the cause, that's only a long lasting paralizing effect. Last time my character was affected a cure paralization potion solved it, so, no scripts nor attribute messing, it's only a common paralizing effect. I suppose it's the same with NPCs. If Vilja didn't recover in a few minutes, or upon casting a cure paralization or dispel on her, the cause is other.

Can you still talk to her? Even if you talk to her does she still stay on the floor doing nothing? Do you have installed toaster says share and CM Partners? If you answered yes to these questions it is a bug that I've read about and encountered in my game several times. The only solution I know is loading a save before Vilja got stuck.

Anyway now to what I wanted to say

First of all thanks again Emma for Vilja! In the past I felt lonely in Oblivion, even with other companions, but now with Vilja that feeling is long gone. I don't even feel the need to get other companions, Vilja is enough. I am curious though what companion mod is similar to this one, in Morrowind? Is it Julan Ashlander? I want the same feeling there also :)

And I remembered a problem I encountered with the new version, and I wanted to ask about it but forgot until now. When I tell Vilja to take the lead nothing happens, she just follows me. Is this a known problem or its just in my case?

So it's the combination of these mods that causes the fall-over-bug? I've read about it, Brozly has had problems with it I know, but I thought the cause wasn't related to companion mods but to other mods affecting the companions. Well, that's interesting news :).

I didn't think of the fall-over-bug as the problems started with a paralyze-spell, but you might very well be right about this. An Alternate solution when the companion has the fall-over-bug is to grab everything in her inventory and then call up the console and type 'resurrect'. That should make her return to normal again, but make sure she didn't have anything of value in the inventory, cause it will be gone. (You shouldn't lose the journal entries or anything when doing this - it's just the inventory content that will vanish).

I'm glad that you are so much enjoying Vilja's company in Cyrodiil :). In Morrowind, Julan Ashlander is probably the very best companion mod. I am ashamed to admit this, but I haven't played the mod :blush:, i.e. I *have* played an early WIP-version of it that Kateri showed me, but I haven't played the mod in it's finished state. A good side-kick to Julan would be Thief companion Constance by me and Grumpy. Now, Constance is from 2005, and at her time she was the Morrowind equivalent to Vilja, but Kateri pushed the bar further with Julan. Naturally Constance and Julan interact and are aware of each other, as well as of my other companions; Laura, Morgana, the Lokken companions. But I'm still not sure you'll get the same feeling as with Vilja. The difference (IMO) is the game AI - Vilja has facial expressions, and she has a voiced dialog, she can 'do' things on her own, like go shopping. This wasn't possible in Morrowind, and as you have played Oblivion first, you'll probably be very aware of the limitations caused by the less advanced AI in Morrowind. Regardless, Julan should give you many good laughs, and using him and Constance in combo will probably be fun.

The problem with the new version of Vilja: I think I can guess, as I have just heard the same twice. You are using a custom Vilja, right? Disable her for a second and check what happens. I'm pretty sure the vanilla Vilja will lead just fine. And then my guess is that you for some reason don't have the newest version of the custom-esp. Make sure you download the newest customization pack, that should help just fine. If you have your own unique Vilja and don't want to do the work with hr face again, there are instructions in the new customization-pack on how to update 'your' Vilja so that she uses the ai-packages for leading the way.

Thank you for the advice about using Constance together with Julan, I will do that :) . Actually I did play Morrowind before Oblivion, just not with mods, so I am used to the limitations and don't bother me much :)

Actually I am using the vanilla Vilja, version 3.1, I didn't want to change your original vision of Vilja. So the problem maybe lies somewhere else?

I discovered the problem. The FCOM Vilja patches. I rebuilt the patch without them and now Vilja leads with no problems.

I realised that I was still using version 2 so I've upgraded, and I love the new features (even if Vilja never seems to have any idea where she's going!). A couple of really minor things:

1. You requested tips on pronunciation. It's "Vi-vec" (to rhyme with "hit") rather than "Vye-vec" (to rhyme with "dry")
2. Suggestion on interaction with NPCs - when the guard says "you have my ear, citizen", she could say "well, I'm not giving it back!"

Just dropping by to thanks Emma and CDCooley for Vilja, the besteresterest companion evah! I had a problem with the FCOM patches too so I've checked them with TES4Edit and I've seen they have less AIPackages than those contained in 1em_vilja.esp. I've rebuilt the Bashed Patch without them and everything works fine.

Thank you for the advice about using Constance together with Julan, I will do that :) . Actually I did play Morrowind before Oblivion, just not with mods, so I am used to the limitations and don't bother me much :)

Actually I am using the vanilla Vilja, version 3.1, I didn't want to change your original vision of Vilja. So the problem maybe lies somewhere else?

So it's the combination of these mods that causes the fall-over-bug? I've read about it, Brozly has had problems with it I know, but I thought the cause wasn't related to companion mods but to other mods affecting the companions. Well, that's interesting news :).

I didn't think of the fall-over-bug as the problems started with a paralyze-spell, but you might very well be right about this. An Alternate solution when the companion has the fall-over-bug is to grab everything in her inventory and then call up the console and type 'resurrect'. That should make her return to normal again, but make sure she didn't have anything of value in the inventory, cause it will be gone. (You shouldn't lose the journal entries or anything when doing this - it's just the inventory content that will vanish).


Well, I'm not using toaster says share Or CM Partners, Vilja hasn't been plauged in quite awhile, but Viconia's been getting bit quite a lot lately.
I suspect it's something simalar to the Low Health issue, witch appears to be caused by a ModAV command, (If I whack her with an enchanted sword, her Max Health drops) Probably a Token added by a Mod.
I will often get the Paralized effect after changing levels or Exiting ruins, I had one save just before exiting, where she seemd to be fine, but Paralized after exiting, upon reload of that save, she was allready paralized.

*Oh, and as far as Pronuceations go, I think Vilja's are just Perfect for her...

(After all, her Voice actress has been around "Vye-vec" a Lot longer than her)

Great companion mod, but I seem to have encountered a problem. Whenever I summon a creature with spells zombies/skeletons/daedra etc Vilja attacks them on sight. Anyone else have this problem or is it a compatibility issue?

Turning off Vilja's encumbrance setting does nothing to affect Realistic Fatigue, it's completely unrelated to any changes made by that mod. Vilja's encumbrance option simply picks whether she can get over-encumbered like the player or if she should be a standard NPC who can carry any amount of equipment. The purpose of Realistic Fatigue is to make the player and all NPCs have penalties related to low health, stamina, and high encumbrance.

Realistic Fatigue provides it's own (complex) system for managing player and NPC fatigue and is completely unrelated to the issue of being over-encumbered in the way that Vilja's setting works. As far as I can tell, there's nothing we can do to affect Realistic Fatigue from within the Vilja mod itself. Realistic Fatigue effectively takes over Vilja's Stamina attribute using it's own scripts and formulas. We gave her a Restore Fatigue ability, but it doesn't help because Realistic Fatigue will "keep fatigue within limits" according to it's own formulas. You can try tweaking the settings for RF or contact Donovan Baarda for suggestions.


So if I understand it correctly, nothing can be done "on the Vilja side" so to speak? I've tried using Feather spells on her ingame and also to add a Feather respectively a Fortify Fatigue ability to her via the CS, but that doesn't help. I've also tuned down Realistic Fatigue effects a bit in its ini - so this is with a "lighter" RF.

So if I understand it correctly, nothing can be done "on the Vilja side" so to speak? I've tried using Feather spells on her ingame and also to add a Feather respectively a Fortify Fatigue ability to her via the CS, but that doesn't help. I've also tuned down Realistic Fatigue effects a bit in its ini - so this is with a "lighter" RF.



Just want to note that I've never had any such issue with summons and Vilja.

Kinda sounds like the Same type issue, (I had problems with High fatuge, but by that point they appeared to be Doomed, (only a matter of time before they'd get the Paralized bug)) if it get's too bad you can always try the "Resurrect" through the Counsel...

(I haven't noticed any problems with Summons either)

Great companion mod, but I seem to have encountered a problem. Whenever I summon a creature with spells zombies/skeletons/daedra etc Vilja attacks them on sight. Anyone else have this problem or is it a compatibility issue?

Many people has reported many problems, but I didn't remember something like that. Going for the compability issue hypothesis, I would start unchecking later released and less common (downloadable in little known websites) mods. Consider suspicion also, any mod that change summoning in any way.
