Gargoyles are one of the more powerful creatures added by OOO, feel free to simply flee from them until you get better gear and a higher level.

I always use the "kill" console command on Ancient Gargoyles. They're impossible, even at higher levels.

I don't find gargoyles that challenging, but Balrogs. BALROGS are impossible.

They're not impossible for the player, at least my chars can take them on, but they would probably win over most other enemies in the game.

From which level do you face Balrogs rather than Lesser Balrogs btw? Don't think my current Lvl 20 char has faced a proper Balrog yet.

They almost never spawn, I saw one around level 30 on this character, I'm 50 now and still just lesser ones. Still pretty scary to zone in to a Gate and see two or three of the lesser ones there though. Zoning in and seeing a couple of Lesser Balrogs tearing it up with a group of Reavers never gets old either, funny funny. Not so funny when you get them during the Battle for Kvatch though, they will annihilate all the NPC's.

The Gargoyles don't really bug me, just smack the crap out of them with Frost, they're really weak against it. At lower levels they'll do that self-paralyze heal before you can kill them (irritating); when they hit the ground, pop a damage MP/FP/HP poison on them and frostburn the hell out of them. Frost Poisons, obviously, are excellent against them.

My Lvl 7 char faced several Lesser Balrogs during the Kvatch quests which was quite challenging. The one in Battle for Kvatch proper killed everything, including my char - which was saved because it didn't spawn the third time I retried from an earlier save.

IIRC, I beta tested Balrogs with a Level 30 char on normal difficulty and could take them out both with melee and magic. Not sure on details as it was a while ago. They are awesome though.

Hmmmm Balrogs! Can't wait. I killed a Gargoyle one time because he was stuck from advancing on me and I just kept shooting him. Don't recall if frost was involved but I used a lot of arrows.

Just faced seven Ancient Gargoyles (plus two ordinary ones) with my Lvl 21 char and while being quite tough of course, I just don't see how some can find them impossible really. Avoid being ganged up, try avoiding their spells as much as possible and just have at them with target spells.

I tend to also. They are not impossible but Ancient Gargoyles just aren't worth it. And it's unrealistic. The whole Imperial Legion could not kill a small flock of them. It's just too time consuming and unrealistic, in my opinion.

I posted something on the MMM thread about having a no gargoyles pluggin like they do for some other creatures, like slims or warewolves.

To kill them I find poisons to be most effective.

I have exactly the opposite experience. Balrogs are relatively easy. Just freeze them. But Ancient Gargoyles are just unbalanced in my opinion.

Regular or lesser Gargoyles are okay. Ancient are just ridiculous.l

While I don't find them that hard as said, I agree that the risk vs. reward is off - but the Gargoyle loot is overhauled in the next version of OOO with unique and quite cool loot, which constitutes sort of new feature on its own. Courtesy of dev_akm and bg2408. :)
