Feet, the foundation of the body.

Post » Wed Dec 22, 2010 12:17 am

Something that has always bugged me with even the best, and most well funded 1st person games, is that moment when you look down at the ground you are surprised to find, that you are floating in the air.
What I am talking about is the fact that the player character's feet are not put into the game when looking in the 1st person camera.

I know that there have been several mods that have addressed this, by changing the 1st person camera to a 3rd person positioned at the character's face. This is not a concrete solution. These mods tend to be buggy, and are problematic; considering that they are making the game work in a way it was not intended to.

So I ask this: Please, Please, put the character's feet into the 1st person camera. a few extra polygons will not hurt anyone, and it would not require additional meshes, considering that it would make sense to use whatever feet the character has in 3rd person. It is a small flaw that, in the uncommon case of looking at the floor, completely destroys the games believability.

I really, really want this. Hopefully Bethesda gets a bit more modern and includes this. There hasn't been a recent shooter that hasn't had this.

This topic has already been discussed at great length. Here's a thread about it from yesterday. -> http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1177561-i-have-nice-legs-let-me-see-them-please/

If they do it, fine. If they don't, still fine. It never really bothered me. Mainly because I know that I have feet and also because I'm not usually looking straight down at the ground.

Your topic title makes people missing their legs feel great.

I would however love to see my legs ingame, but I think there are a few topics floating about on this already.

Don't care.

I've been playing viewpoint+forearms 1st person games long enough that I'm entirely used to them, and have no problem knowing that I'm actually a whole player, not just a floating camera.

And, as pointed out, there's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1177561-i-have-nice-legs-let-me-see-them-please/, that hasn't been locked yet.

If you watch the trailer when he runs at the cliff and stops short, no feet.

EDIT: Scratch that, he doesn't look down enough.

why do you want a milocule of an idea taht will ultimately take up more space on a hard drive?

they do it fine, no biggie, but if they dont no real loss either.

dont say realism either, as its a cop out

Gunmaster95: I'm sorry, I did not realize that you were handicapped in such a way. Regardless, I meant no offense towards amputees with my topic.

SteelfireDragon: This IS a big deal realism-wise. when you look at the floor do you notice that you are actually a phantom floating in the air? no. And the extra polys of having one more character being processed would not hurt anyone's hard drive, being what, 15kb at most?
P.S. you will notice people taking you more seriously when you can spell simple four letter words correctly.

To all others who have mentioned there being another thread: I did not notice the existence of the other thread when I made this one, for that I offer my apologies. However, considering that almost a day has gone by and this thread has also not been locked for being a duplicate, I do not see why the conversation started here cannot continue.

I'm sure this is going to sound a bit odd, I know, but speaking of feet and being able to see them, I hope that they actually look like feet this time. In Oblivion they looked really blocky and did you ever look at feet in Fallout 3? It's even worse. Just kind of a pet peeve.

Except it *is* realism and immersion.

However, it'll also let you cast shadows, which will add a *lot* to realism and immersion. And it won't take up any more space, what with you already having to have all the models anyway.

Yes, but I know from experience that fingers and toes are some of (if not the most) difficult things to make through meshing. However, noticing the immense detail of the rest of the game so far, it should be expected that feet are also of the same quality.
It's just a certain expectation when considering a prestigious and strong team such as Beth.
