Game crashes when I have duration effects

I just reinstalled everything a couple days ago to clear up a few problems. I've got the same load order as before, but now I have this really weird problem I've never seen before - when I cast a spell, drink a potion, or do anything that has a duration (adds the spell icon in the upper right corner with a timer), the game immediately crashes. I thought it might be OOO, but that's just for chest traps. I tried disabling LAME, but that wasn't it... I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas before I go wasting my time checking all kinds of other stuff first.

My only guesses would be to check OBSE version or LAME. (Did you test removing the latter on a new game?)

My guess would be that it's related to Custom Spell Icons, since that patches the part of the game that displays 'Active Effect' icons. If that's the case, though, you would still need to know what mod is interacting with CSI to cause the crash.

Can you post a list of the OBSE plugins you are using?

OBSE 19b6, and I checked LAME (but not on a new game).

My guess would be that it's related to Custom Spell Icons, since that patches the part of the game that displays 'Active Effect' icons. If that's the case, though, you would still need to know what mod is interacting with CSI to cause the crash.Can you post a list of the OBSE plugins you are using?

Oh, right, it could be your UI mod that is incompatible with certain spell icons or graphics or whatever. Try a new game without LAME and the icons mod, and take out any UI mods you have installed. Add them back one-by-one, and only test on new games until you have pinned this one down.

Yes, sounds a bit like the issue with the old version of DarN's UI and using its text counter for durations with a patched game. More http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/oooproblems.html. So if running an old version (pre-patch) of an UI, update it.

BTW, if installing just the other day, why using old versions of OOO, MMM, FCOM?

Err... those are mods that use OBSE, I meant obse plugins - basically, the contents of your Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\ folder.

In any case, it sounds like Arkngt has a much more viable lead than my vague suspicions.

Phinix DarkUI uses the original Dark UI, unless I am mistaken, and that does not have any special compatibility options. Try completely uninstalling it. Just remove your Menus folder temporarily and launch a new game.

It was the UI. After some searching, I discovered that I'd missed the Meshes/Menus folder, which has the Enemy Health Bar mesh (which is apparently used for spell timers). Once I put that back in, it worked fine. Thanks guys! :thumbsup:
