i got alot of responsibilities these days, compared to back in 2002-2005, when i discovered Morrowind, and then Oblivion. I was in college when Morrowind came out, and i gotta say, i wasn't able to manage my time all that well! this game addicted me. i'd rush my assignments, and start playing around 5-6pm, and not stop till after 12. and i'd do this daily! i'd be playing this game, with the same character, for months, working my way through the guild quests, main quests, daedric quests, the two expansions. i'll tell ya, i really didn't do too well in school. well, i'll say, i'm not going to blame TES for nearly failing in college; thats MY FAULT! but it certainly didn't help. in 2005 and after, i again was neglecting my studies, when Oblivion came out. and then of course i had to play Farcry, Crysis, Fear, Doom 3, Gothic 2 & 3, Half Life 2 and it's subsequent episodes. . .

sometime after that, i put down gaming for awhile. i was graduating college (phew..), and i had to start thinking about my future. me and my bro decided to start a business. and guess what was rumored to come out during the time we were brainstorming our business..... GTA IV LMAO. so i'm supposed to be writing business plans, and i'd stop so that i could check out all the mindblowing screenshots... and then the time came when we would start construction on our office. ...AND THEN GTA IV IS RELEASED!! at the same time i should be focusing on constuction. again, i seriously couldn't focus. we started operation, yet i couldn't get my mind off of GTA. long story short, our business struggled alot during that time. again, NOT BLAMING anyone but myself.

jump to the present. just prior, i'd like to think i managed my time pretty well playing Fallout 3 and it's expansions (haven't gotten around to NV). business went smoothly, money was coming in, i could relax a little. go home, play a little bit of Fallout (took about 2 months to play through). but i don't think i played it as obsessively like i did with Morrowind and Oblivion. like, i didn't spend 6-7 hours daily on it. and then..... i stopped gaming. and then rumours about TES IV. tried my darn best to not care. and then..... when was it? last December? SKYRIM IS ANNOUNCED!!!

oh no...not again... have mercy on me. now, i have a girlfriend, who can't understand why i love games. business isn't doing to well AGAIN! i had to quit 1 out of 2 of my bands, so that i could focus.

having said that, i think the release date will defintely work out for me this time. in november, i'll have to seriously manage my time a lil bit better. but xmas is right around the corner! so when it's xmas vacation, i'm gonna do nothing but play Skyrim!

anyone else have a hard time managing your time? work/school vs gaming?

Well I have uni around that time, my course requires a lot of studying but luckily it's not as severe as your case lol, you have a problem on your priorities haha and here I thought I was a games fanatic. At least you was a little better with Fallout 3 maybe you'll be the same with Skyrim who knows.

nah man, i'm seriously tame! like lately, i'm not playing anything!! i played gears of war 1 and 2 when they came out. took a break. and when Portal was realeased for free on Steam for Mac, tat did preoccupy my time for a bit. but then i stopped again LOL AND THEN FALLOUT...then stopped! i'm not constantly gaming anymore! i can imagine other dudes always having something to constantly play. like right now, i could be preoccupying my time with Red Dead Redemption, and Dead Space, and the mass effect games...i'm just choosing not to

I have exams (huge epic exams) times 5 only months after Skyrim get out. DAMMIT. I'll probabably start really playing it after marsh 2012..

Ah Ha! For once living on the other side of the world is paying off for me!!! I may have to fork out crazy amounts for tech that in the US would be significantly cheaper, but atleast come 11.11.11 my Uni holidays would have just begun and I will have 111 days (yup I counted) of Skyrim exclusivity (aside from work of course, but that's what the laptop is for, sweet). And check out that number, another 111, looks like Devine providence. Yipeee

This svcks, I can tell. I used to have difficult times when I lived with my mother, she was always suspecting me playing games while I was working and thought it was a waste of time. Now I have a girlfriend who is a gamer too and I thank God for that, she buys me games as presents :dance:
As regarding my time when Skyrim comes out, I know I'll have to sleep less, because otherwise I can't run from the other chores, my schedule is as tight as it gets. I'm going to play 1-2 hours each night and more in the weekends.

she just likes to tease me how all this Skyrim mumbo jumbo is BOORING. i think i'll be able to balance my time between skyrim and my woman. i think she watched me play the latest Splinter Cell, and nearly passed out lol

The great thing is that I have an Eidetic memory, so I never had trouble playing for endless hours of games a day and have issues with school because most of the time I would read through the chapter in class and finish the assignment before I ever left campus and then I was free to play all the time I wanted because Stacey also plays video games hurray! Now that I'm currently just building gaming computers and repairing computers for a living atm while doing my passion, which is working in on game design, I get a lot of free time to do what I want. Such as post on these forums with all the great fans :biggrin:

When Morrowind came out, I played it for a year, many hours each day. I cut back a bit later, but then Oblivion came around. Iunno what it is, I'm not usually addicted to games, but TES, I'm just terrible with. Last year I tried to stop playing Morrowind/Oblivion cold-turkey. I think I actually went into withdrawl from games (that's when I swore to never get so addicted again). I'm still in school, and thankfully I'm very smart and could get away with putting little effort into school, but my marks still dropped substantially.

Now with Skyrim I'm really worried. Will I be able to control myself? I hope so...

I am currently unemployed, and a full time student. But by the time Skyrim comes out, I plan to at least be working part time in addition to classes, so my time will be more strained. Luckily and unluckily, my gf goes to school at another university, so dividing time is not an issue. Then again, even if we lived together I can't imagine I would have a problem, although not a "gamer," she is a history nerd and plays Quest on her itouch. But, she does have a habit of asking me about my homework, which I have a habit of ignoring until I've killed a certain amount of enemies, be they terrorists, fascists, zombies, trolls, or what have you. There is a certain quota of blood that must be filled before school becomes relevant to my central nervous system.

I'd rather it be in the summer, I have to concentrate on finals in nov. Good thing though its around thanksgiving/christmas holidays though.

Don't bother...it doesn't work. I also thought I was officially "done" with Oblivion, then someday out of boredom and curiosity I went to TESNexus, and I was like "ooooh, what a nice new castle!" "oooh, what a lovely house!" "Guess what? I haven't tried DR6 THAT much..." "OOOOH, NEW QUESTMODS WHAT THE H..."

...and now I'm back to it. 100% addicted again

I blame Bethesda for making us mod enjoyment out of oblivion waiting for skyrim.

Im currently working at an hospital 40 hours a week including holidays - but i got no hometasks almost im awake about 80 hours a week so im having my needed gaming time

Sad thing is, I have it for the console.

Yeah, I blame them, too...because my time with Oblivion can only be measured by thousands of hours, not hundreds ^^

And I also blame mods because they've made me upgrade my computer more often that I should (BTW, I'm DEFINITELY getting an SSD disk and 16 gb's of RAM for my new Skyrim-oriented rig, and for those ones who say that's overkill I'd have them play Oblivion with Better Cities & Unique Landscapes with "only" 4 gb's of RAM...my poor hard drive gets in flames every time it has to load anything).

Yeah...though i dont think its a gaming obsession more of a i hate homework, studying and anything about school really, type deal. but games give me an excuse-ish not to study and i do like them.

I tend to lose interest in gaming in the spring and summer and shift gears into real life outdoor activities. When it gets cold, I play Bethesda games EXCLUSIVELY.
The timing is perfect, and the devs know it. Many people experience the same thing.
Now I understand that it's summer in places like Australia, and New Zealand when it's winter in the US and Europe, but it's good business sense on the part of game developers to release major titles on dates like 11-11-11. A cup of hot chocolate and let's go kill something. I can't wait.
