Nick Brecon, Bethesda's community manager, announced that Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is going to be using an all-new engine that's been built internally.
"We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic," Brecon said.
When asked by Rock Paper Shotgun's Jim Rossignol whether the new engine was licensed from another developer - as has been the case with Bethesda in the past - Brecon elaborated that "It's a new graphics/gameplay engine built internally. We'll have more details down the road."
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was announced this weekend at the VGA awards.

This news will be music to the ears of Oblivion's many fans. Bethesda used the ageing Gamebryo engine for its current crop of first-person RPG's - Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas - which was perpetually riddled with bugs. Hopefully Bethesda's new engine will fare better.
