Sweeping and dusting etc.... If NPCs can do it, can I?

Yeah, everything non-playable characters can do playable characters should be able to do.

If I am weilding a broom and I press the button assigned to using it, I expect to swing it like a weapon thankyou. I will have many fun hours beating weak bandits with a broom.

I'd pinch them with the mighty calipers of Maiq.

This may be an all-time low for ideas on this thread.

We're starving for information. :shakehead:

I'm not too worried, though it would be a nice feature to have included in the game, if the devs don't do it a modder will after a few months. Plus, apart from a few funny screenshots (sweeping a corpse littered floor?), I really wouldn't get that much use out of it.

I shall sweep the floors of Skyrim clean! And every crumb, every particle of dirt that dares to fall on the floor shall cower to the name of Dostkiin, Dust-Born!

Actually, being able to use all those useless objects to make the player perform an animation that the NPCs normally play when they use the item isn't such a bad idea. It might not do anything, but it's nice for posing and such. :D

You guys are missing the main point. Don't focus on sweeping (that's a lame idea IMO) but focus on the option of doing actions npcs can do. Like when we eat things, we can actually see us eating them like they do, etc.

It's not a question of whether or not I'd do it, it's a question of what they could have made instead of this.

This isn't a massive undertaking. I don't think they would have to relegate the majority of the team and use up a week of resources to implement it. This wouldn't be a resource hog.

Then don't do it. That's one of the beauties of TES. Tons of options and things to do. You play how you want. I'm sure there's certain things you do in your playthroughs that I think are pointless but it is still cool that the options are there.

It would be awesome for some animations like this to be included for idle times. If you don't use the controller for a while, Oblivion took to a 3rd person view of your character standing there and rotated around.

It would be cool for your character to actually do stuff while in this idle mode. The kind of action could be determined by what the character is equipped and the location.

So if you have a broom, a character standing around for a while will start using it (unless outside, that makes no sense, lol).

With a sword equipped, one might pull it out to clean or twirl around.

If you are close to a wall or vertical service or tree, your character might lean against it.

If there is a bard nearby, your character might start dancing, tapping his foot, or bobbing his head to the music.

You can see the possibilities are endless, and might be entertaining.

I personally would love to see some functionality to the excessive amounts of junk/clutter found in TES. I'm so sick of seeing hourglasses, brooms, rakes, shovels, forks, etc, and not seeing a point to their inclusion besides, "ooh, a caliper, how immersive!" Overrated much?

NPCs are always more capable than the PC.This doesn't apply just to TES,that is so in every single game out there.

Just because NPCs can do it doesn't mean players can, after all, Oblivion had a lot of animations used by NPCs that were not available to the player, eating, reading, drinking, things like that. While some of these were activities the player could do, of course, you did not get an animation for them, and some of them were purely cosmetic and did not represent things the player could do at all, like painting, so the inclusion of sweeping animations does not mean the player can sweep as well either.

I'd say that letting the player sweep would be kind of pointless, but then again, so is letting the player sit, and if the game already has the animations for it, I can't imagine it would be hard to let you do it as well, so I guess the answer is "why not?" if nothing else, it would be useful for taking screenshots, like the many pose mods for Oblivion that ultimately have no impact on gameplay but are pretty much essential for regular posters in the screenshots thread.

This is an interesting thread to read through. :)

I'm not against the idea, but I'd rather the development team focused on other things. Modders have always gotten NPC actions to us with relative ease for all those picture-perfect moments. :)

Well if NPC can play an animation with equipped clutter then player also can do this thats isn't hard scripting at all
for second such animated "work" can be used as part of some quests as well, for third thats nice option for screen shoot poses.
