Like a DnD inspired bard, the illusionist and enchanter. Let your music be your weapon.

Instruments would add very little to gameplay. If you want to jam out, go play guitar hero.

I agree completely.

I feel like doing instruments would have the outcome like Fable, where it's a dumb little mini-game that grates your nerves and has poor responsiveness. To be honest I have nothing against instruments and music in games. I mean having bards in the city tavern or traveling showmen would be really interesting, but all these threads about the player doing all these things is painful to read. Most people love TES games because of the narrative, setting, and game mechanics not the small things that waste time and add nothing concrete to the experience. I think the strongest example of a game using tiny things to waste time and add "flavour" is fable. In my opinion that franchise has been steadily degrading each new release. I'd hate to see TES fall prey to the additives disease.

Sounds interesting, but it seems a bit close to a guitar hero minigame. I'm not necessarily against it, but I'm certainly not going to be disappointed if this doesn't make it in.

I'd love for the bards to be something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ooj25_j3k1E&feature=fvwrel. Would really add to the nordic atmosphere.

Disregard the previous post I am still noobish to the forums.

Yeah, and if you want to wield a sword and wear armour go join the Medieval Combat Society, I get really sick of hearing this tosh. Yesterday in the Romance thread it was something along the lines of "If you want romance you get yourself a girlfriend/boyfriend"

Just because you personally don't like a particular game element (probably because you are not musically inclined) doesn't mean it's crap or shouln't be included. Every little detail the developers add to the gameworld provides a deeper, richer experience for everyone who plays it.

I'll be fine with just him playing but makes me wonder if we can wield the lute or what instrument did he have in his hands?

Make a Bard character who sings his Thu'um. hehe.

I think being able to play instruments would harm rather than help the game. While its cool to see npcs playing their is no reason for the charcter to, it would be silly. :gun: :run:

Yep.

Anyway, playable instruments (or some sort of Bard's guild) could lead to some really interesting quest lines.

I could see that being really cool to interact with NPCs through playing an instrument, but I don't see it being a very practical skill to have. Great mod idea, though.

We don't know the nature of the puzzles in Skyrim yet, what if playing a series of notes in succession was a requirement to solve a puzzle/open a lock to a special area.... or even put a Dragon to sleep? Would it be a practical and useful skill to learn then?

What about the Bards College in Solitude, is this a pointless building thrown in just to fill out the landscape, or does it exist for a good reason? I believe it's the latter.

Lots of possibilities there folks.

A full blown Guitar Hero like mini-game with player input seems like a pretty damm simple thing to do. Two Worlds 2 did it. Awfully, but it did. I simply cannot see how it could be so time and resource consuming, really. The team's big enough that a couple of developers employ some of their time on it, since we seem to be getting some other minigames based on menial jobs like woodcutting, fishing, etc.

It's simple, it won't deeply affect gameplay, but it's charming, immersive and relaxing, three aspects that are, at least to me, integral to an Elder Scrolls Experience. Maybe the most you play the best you get at it, like a secondary set of skills, so that you can do it in a more passive manner, as in without player input. THIS I can see as being a bit more development resources demanding, but I'd really enjoy something like that.

Edit:Reactive Reaper ninja'd me with the Two Worlds 2 reference, but everything else I've said still applies ^^

its falls in the RP category even if you don't RP someone else does and if they want to use it its there.. and if you have a change of heart down the road it will available for you its a good concept and works very well on MMORPGS today and no it doesn't have to be a guitar hero like style since guitar hero was not the first player controlled music system in a game. If implemented could add a way to befriend others, earn some gold, earn some special achievements like free lodging for a day or two throw a skill system on it and will be game changing
