Sentry Guns useless

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:17 pm

Hi there.

Normaly i like to play as engineer. I love it in TF2. You need skill, but you are powerfull too. Your main power comes from the SentryGun.

But in Brink the Sentrygun is complete useless. A slow reacting thing that dont last 5 seconds in a fight, with cute little damage. How the Hell did this crap survived the Beta?

There need is for action.

What do you think?

P.S: I just saw that there is another Thread with this subject. Admin pls put my comment in it, if necessary. Thank you.

There is a thread already devoted to this exact topic called "disappointment in turrets" if you want to join that conversation.

Other than that I can't really say much, i'm a medic lol. :]

Try to unlock the Medium or Gatling turrets. They are way better

Brink torrents aren't TF2 torrents.

Try to use em to augment defensive zones and as distractions in some cases.

They can generate some nice xp when placed well.

Placement, Placement, Placement. That's the key to Brink turrets. You have to give them enough time to lock on to the target and keep them out of direct line of fire. If you can do that then they work very well. I can't count the number of kills I've gotten with my turret and I haven't even unlocked the gatling turret yet.

Lock on speed, damage, and tracking really improve with the gatling turret. Once you get that it's much more useful, but the medium and light turrets are just a distraction mostly.

You have to have bullets flying to activate the deployable turrets. I've ran past them so many times but as soon as I try to kill it's engineer, an array of bullets keep me pinned down to the point of having to lean out to shoot.

As said before, placement.
And as said in another thread, they are SUPPORT. Unless you are fighting ridiculously [censored] players (or the AI), a lone turret placed off in some alcove or open spot somewhere is going to get killed faster than it can make up the loss in a pip, much less generate a profit. Using mines and your own fire in addition to even a light turret can do wonders, especially if you are on the defensive.

If all else fails, I just use mine as a shield. The 2nd spout of bullets is just icing on the cake.

I use them as a second gunman. Simply plop it down near a command post while capturing, distracting the AI until capture complete. Then while they are standing there awaiting the turret to be destroyed, put a few bullets in their head and move on.

I agree that the turret in Brink is somewhat buggy, though the med and gattling turret def dont do 'cute lil dmg' a well placed turret can easily mow a team down,
even more so if you got 2 or even 3 turrets on a choke point. Yes they r quite low on hp and a well placed nade with like 3bullets takes it out.
but like i said, once you get med or gattling it gets better and you really need 2 find out the gd spots to place them, dont have loads of problems with mine.
perhaps they should do like MW2/BO sentry guns? personally i enjoyed those alot, again IF you know where to put it.

anywayz patience brother, engineers will save the day!!

Turrets are better for defending objectives than getting kills, its better to reduce the health of an enemy trying yo do an objective than to kill and enemy at any othe rpoint on the map

I have the medium turret unlocked, and it DESTROYS the enemy. A.I. or in Multi.

It is all about where you place it. As a former Army Ranger 12b Combat Eng, it is always best to use any explosive or remote weapon as defense.

Place your turret close to an objective, maybe in a corner, and wait for the kills to come in.

Also, don't leave your turret to fend for itself, stay close by to repair it.... you are an engineer, remember ?

Use the turret in choke points, bottle neck areas, or any narrow pathway.

Hope this helps a bit. :)

I find the turret is best when you babysit it. It seems to lock on a lot faster when you shoot at a target in it's range.
This is not a drop 'n forget uber-turret, but when used well they will shred anything they lock onto.

A turret is not equal to another team member, but they supplement team members nicely. Very useful when holding a position.

I'm no good as an Engineer, but when turrets are well placed (even Light Turrets), they do a great job of controlling enemy movements - they force people to reconsider their approach, they make people waste frags on them, which gives you a location more clearly than just seeing them pop out - because people who grenade a turret ALWAYS move straight in after the blast to finish it off and continue their approach - if you see where the frag came from, you know where to watch for the attack.

And if they don't take the turret out first, it'll help you take THEM down.

Also, turrets put in corners away from the objective, but facing it, are BRUTAL to try and bypass - if you do it right, the person won't know there's a turret in the area until it's too late to evade properly (except as a Light, in which case they have to choose to worry about the turret, the objective, or any other enemies around them.

Sentry guns are awesome. This is not TF2. Your job as engineer is not to hide behind your turret, hitting it with a wrench.

Turrets are there to make movement difficult. They're not the nigh unstoppable killing machines from TF2. With that said, good placement can make them seem quite the opposite.
