Game freezes shortly after starting

After talking about Skyrim a lot recently I've decided to start playing Oblivion again. It's been a year since I last played and after going through and updating stuff that needed to be updated I started up a new game. Unfortunately the game freezes up while several mods are initializing right after making a new character, the free occurs right after Unnecessary Violence is finished initializing and Im not sure what could be causing it.

Anyone have any idea what mod could be acting up and causing this freeze?

Can't see anything straight away that's too terrible, except for some minor FCOM installation errors (check the latest FCOM thread's OP for details on what I mean there - worth combing through and adhering to anyway... actaully, it's a must!) ;)

However... have you read the boss log html taht comes up after running BOSS? Also, have you done what's necessary to do, in the UV ini? I assume so, but you never know, so please forgive the question if it's a case of "of course", kinda thing. :)

Hm. Otherwise yeah, there's too much to try and sort out there. But I'll give it another look, in a bit.

edit: Well, except the "Delinquent Master" message, in the list you posted, of course. But I believe that's a mod error, that's yet to be cleared up. Could be wrong though..

This is the problem. Looks like Combat Moves is lower down in your load order. Either move it up before this esp, or move this down below.

Yeah I read BOSS's log and I saw no error messages or anything, there weren't the last time I played and most of what I added this go around were updates to mods I was already using.

This is the problem. Looks like Combat Moves is lower down in your load order. Either move it up before this esp, or move this down below.


That's how BOSS placed them.

But I have an update, it seems the "freeze" isn't a permanent one, it just hangs for a really long time on something and then unfreezes and continues initializing stuff. I think it might be Deadly Reflex, I dunno, but there is something in the thread mentioning someone having a long freeze while initializing stuff.

It may have to do with the OBGE Support plugin. Disable that and see if it helps.

Whoa, thats odd. I just dropped the sack cloth junk you start with and for some reason the female orc Im playing as appeared completely naked. Im not running any kind of nvde mods or body replacers and thats the first time Ive ever had a character do that (also first time playing orc).

Ah. Of course! I totally missed that upon scanning the list.

Even better, delete ssao_test.fx and ssao_perf.fx from your Oblivion\Data\Shaders directory. Then try starting a game again. There might still be a *bit* of a pause, but - assuming this is the suplrit - it should be vastly reduced. Seconds, as opposed to minutes, basically. OBGE isn't an issue, but those two shaders still are, in this way.

But even so, check the latest FCOM thread's OP, and make sure you're doing everything right (hint: you're not ;)) - it might well save you much hassle, in the long run. My advice, anyway. The current DR6 release accidentally included HGEC meshes. See the release thread for instructions on how to remove them.

Huh. Turns out BOSS doesn't pick up the at least one thing I was thinking of. Well. If you read the OP of the current FCOM thread, and follow its instructions, you'll see what I mean, nonetheless. It's really the only way to go. Also, the best way to start. Saves a lot of headaches and/or eerily familiar threads. :D

edit: Same goes for any mod, of course. For example, that info about OBGE is in the OP of the current OBGE thread, and that should be read by anyone thinking about installing said mod. And so on...

My FCOM installation is from last year, which is also when I last read the installation guide for FCOM, and afaik it ran without errors (at least any that made the game unplayable or anything). Is there any kind of hint as to what I am missing / doing wrong, aside from just reading the thread?

Also getting rid of that shader plugin seemed to improve my load times on saves, so thanks for that.
