Nighteye Gameplay Balance

Post » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:52 am

Well, you have to love the cava obscura mod, makes the lighting really real. Now you need that torch. However:

if you use weapon and shield or a two hand weapon, torches do not do much good, even with DLT mod. Plus, using a torch or light spell should light you up so that enemies can spot you a mile away (or kilometer for the rest of the world :) ). So to make things easy you use nighteye. With this you lose all the great ambiance and then what is the point of making dungeons dark? With nighteye and good sneak/archery skills you can kill everyone without them even knowing you are there.

So what is the solution? Does anyone know of any mods or settings that can remove the power of nighteye?

My thought would be to blur everything past a certain radius so you do not see the enemies as far. Or make a shader that really makes it difficult to distinguish creatures/NPCs from the background.

I am looking for any suggestions to help balance this for me.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe one of http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7327?

You could always... not use Nighteye! :D

edit: Fixed the link.

Found the one mod that does something like I am looking for but a bit extreme with the narrowing of vision. I would think something in the line of a torch with a view radius and then blur past that without narrowing vision.

Not use nighteye? I guess if we can choose not to do drugs we can choose to avoid things in game :)

Tryng not to use it now but I will say, the darn light spells and torches get me whacked on by the bad guys all the time. How is it that NPCs can see you and operate in pitch black conditions? Do they all have nighteye?

I know the AI is dumb but gimme a break.

I fully agree with you. My last character (that half-khajiit race from RBP, don't remember its name) has nighteye as a racial ability, which just made sneaking around in dark caves to easy and much less intense, so I ended up modifying the night-eye ability to only work under water. But that's not a possibility with all enchanted nighteye spells, so I have downloaded http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14917 and meaning to use one of them. From the description and images, it looks much better (as in making nighteye less overpowered) than the one Breton Paladin linked to.

Nice find, TNO. :)

I just threw that one out there, because I thought at least one of them must surely be OK for these purposes. However, I've never used it, because... I haven't used Nighteye! :D

Maybe one day, I will. And if so, I'll try that one you linked to. Thanks!

TNO, with all the great mods you make I am surprised you have not tackled this yet :)

That link The Nice One posted is good. I use it. I chose one of the smaller vision areas with a very bright center. So it's still hard to see so it's not totally god mode like vanilla.
