Future Weapons in the game?

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:48 am

Brink is supposed to take place around 2045, right? They lost contact with the rest of the world in 2020. The Ark was probably built sometime present day. Like between 2010-2015. So, if the Ark was built sometime around 2010, then the weapons are probably modern-day and since they lost contact with the world in 2020 maybe they never got to upgrade they're weapons to fit the modern tech. (Modern meaning 2020's tech and so on.) But if they didn't then that means we might be playing with futuristic weapons. I'm not trying to say this should be like Halo and have all these future weapons like the Gravity Hammer, but will we see NEAR-future weapons at all? Or just today's modern weapons? What would you guys like to play with? M4, M16's? Some near future, not-too-crazy weapons? Or some totally futuristic weapons that we might not even comprehend in 2010?

Yeah. I was thinking near future, definatly not laser or anything. But I wasn't sure if I was going to see an M16 or something modern, also.

Ya know, you aren't too friendly to the new members. And there is still a whole lot of time before the game comes out so I doubt they are completely done.

As far as adding any new content, they are most likely past that phase of development. They are using the time they have to balance, tweak and polish.

And I don't expect to see anything but ballistic based weapons. Probably nothing we haven't seen before.

technically, i am a new member.
i don't mind newbies, i mind people who, instead of reading previous topics, make topics about stuff that has been said already. or, for instance, start speculating about weapons, when most of the weapons are already known and are in fact, modified/improved/new kinds of nowadays weapons(with cool names, gotlung mini gun :celebration: )

I have been reading previous topics and sorry I don't know every weapon that's in a game that didn't even come out yet! :banghead:

would be impossible to know since they always keep some secret til release date.
but still, you can look at the guns, and see that they all look pretty much like guns that are being used now.

but okay, i'll keep my head down when it's speculating time.
or even better, i'll join in

as long as there is no gauss pistol/smg/ar/lmg/hmg it's all right by me.
gauss rifle is hard enough to believe, let alone a lighter kind, talking about a gauss pistol [censored] me off completely

How is it unfeasible?

it is "unfeasible" since gauss rifles on every game have high damages, and in a pistol there is no way to use magnetism to get high enough speeds to penetrate clothes and human tissue.
in that link of yours, that gun can only shoot a very small piece of metal, and i expect it wouldn't fly very far either.
further more it's bulky as [censored]

i prefer the mechwarriors/mechcommander ones
they're big, they pack a punch, and they have the space to develop high speeds

Gauss weapons do not have to fire rounds with more force or faster than normal guns. The military is interested in infantry gaussian weapons, because they are silent and do not need to have a cartridge. A slow, high mass round can transfer as much kinetic energy as a fast, low mass one. What about having it deal normal damage with a shorter range than a normal pistol?

explain please?

What about having it deal normal damage with a shorter range than a normal pistol?

..what'd be the point? i mean, a pistol is already short range, why decrease it even further by using something that uses a lot of energy?

A slow, high mass round can transfer as much kinetic energy as a fast, low mass one.

granted, but still, the use of a gauss pistol is barely above zero.
