Crime and Punishment Poll

Since we're in Skyrim, how about a good old barbarian Trial by Ordeal, or Trial by Combat? Would be a but more interesting than simply paying a fine or being locked up.

In http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gI5-GZkKBDQ&feature=related there is a concept art of an executioner with an axe type weapon and holding a head.

Maybe this means...
A. Execution is a punishment for serious crimes
B. Decapitation is a feature.

I think a complex system it a little too much to expect but it would be really good :)

I think the way Oblivion allowed you to commit crimes was fine. Real problem-solving AI's are still way too primitive to expect any major improvements.
Maybe an NPC could chose 'not' to report a crime based on disposition/alignment/factions or they could give you the 'illusion' that a crime you committed is being investigated; but that's really the most we can hope for.

The system with the bounty however is too old and needs a major upgrade.
You should not get a bounty for stealing a fork, neither is 1000 gold a reasonable compensation for murdering a citizen.

There might be a duel. Since bethesda confirmed duels are in.

Skyrim should have a different Crime and Punishment system for fallout or Oblivion imho. I hated killing a dude in his house only to find a dozen guards arriving to arrest me 5 seconds later. You should have the ability to kill someone and leave the crime scene without being spotted hide the body to escape detection. Maybe guards could check the crime scene for evidence of the murderer after you leave. Similarly, guards, bandits, and regular citizens should notice when one of their buddies is lying in a pool of blood on the ground. "Hey, Bob's dead. Damn rats." Also, if you steal from someone's shop at night, maybe they should hire a guard or multiple guards depending on the wealth of the victim and amount stolen. This would give a new level of complexity of crime in Skyrim without making the game too easy or too hard. Opinions?

+1
great idea
