The Waiting System

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:14 am

Do you guys think the waiting system has changed at all for Skyrim? I got annoying sometimes in OB when you had to wait for a certain time and you could only go by hour. And when I hit the right hour, it was x amount of minutes passed and missed the right time or it was x amount of minutes early and I'd have to walk around until that time came.

It'd be great if you can adjust the hours AND minutes as well. So say you have to meet so and so at 2:15 PM and the current time is 5:35 AM...you can adjust it so you wait 8 hours and 40 minutes or however you wanna go about it...just sayin' it would be more convienent.

Also a thing I like about FO3's wait system is that the screen wouldn't go completely dark, like OB's, it has accurate lighting to show you about what time it is in the game.

Thoughts?

Well, now they are going to have you read a book in real time, right? I imagine that they wouldn't just show a black screen for waiting like in TES:IV, they are most likely going to at least have FO3's waiting system.

I'd rather you don't even wait for x amount of hours. You just input the time you want to wait till.

I found that Oblivion was fairly forgiving in many cases when it came to meeting a certain person at a certain time - instead of "waiting" for the appointed hour, I would run around and search for alchemy ingredients, or knock of a few nasty beasts to keep my skills up, and then head for the meeting.

I'd definitely like a good reason to read and keep some books, cause I don't want to read when I have other stuff I should be doing, but if I have to wait for something, I'd definitely read if time still passes instead of just skipping. Granted they are adding a lot of fluff stuff too like cooking, so there should be something to do while you wait.

I like BoSStealthAgent's idea of putting the time you want to wait until, much more useful than working out how many hours and minutes you need. One of the things that bugged me in Oblivion was that reading and alchemy didn't take up time, now that it is, I don't think I'll wait as often.

Hopefully you no longer heal from waiting. That was a load of crap.

They fixed this in FO3.

Where did you get this info from, has this been confirmed?

I don't know about alchemy, or even books, but I know you can "read" the books in 3D which I assume means open books won't have scribbles maybe?

I'd rather you don't even wait for x amount of hours. You just input the time you want to wait till.

This and using a time-lapse thing would be good. It speeds up the timescale variable until it gets to the time you input. And, if they could, it would also make NPCs and other things move faster too, so that you can see if your rest is going to be interrupted. Of course, the cancel button must remain.

I don't necessarily always want to fill out the time sheet on when I stop waiting, only in certain things. If it's a business opening, why not just have the option of "Stop waiting when the store opens"?

Hopefully you no longer heal from waiting. That was a load of crap.

This is very important!

I'm pretty sure they said time would pass when reading books in one of the GI articles... I think, I could just be imagining this, so don't take my word for it. I presumed Alchemy would be the same, so I just said that

Some lighting effects would be cool, not just a black screen. Though I did kinda like the hour by hour, it felt like you were actually waiting, not just skipping ahead.

I also know that they are removing the ability to wait for 1 hour and fully heal, however IMO that doesn't really make a difference if you can fulkly heal after waiting 10 hours anyways, cause you can just set it to wait 10 hours. I'd rather you couldn't heal just by waiting.

It shouldn't be wait X hours from now...

As BoSStealthAgent says:
I should be wait until X o'clock. So if a shop opens at 9:00 AM and the time is 8:35 AM you press wait then you select wait until 9:00 AM, no more addition required.

You don't won't to overcomplicate it with minutes as well.

The FO3 waiting was cool, lighting change and stuff...
And they should introduce vagrancy, so you can't wander around the city during night ;f
