Invisible Mesh

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:55 am

The Zombies in Space team has put together a mesh for our scifi jumpsuit, but for some reason while the fully textured item looks fine in nifskope, it seems to be utterly borked in game, being utterly invisible. Our modellers computer has crashed, so we'd be grateful if anyone would be willing to take a look at it for us.

Did you setup normal maps for the textures?

The game engine will choke on the structure of this NIF. It's in multiple points invalid for Oblivion.

1. There's another "Scene Root.03" node inside the top-level "Scene Root" node and this one is then containing the NiTriStrips/Shapes/etc.
2. The "Scene Root.03" does not even contain "all" the other nodes but there's yet another "Scene Root" node inside it which is containing "the other half".

This looks to me like when one attempted to merge meshes by importing them from several NIF files and didn't take care there will be only 1 armature in the end. Happened to me quite a lot in the beginnings, so I know it very well.
The easiest way to get rid of this I know of is to delete "all" your armatures in your modeling app, then select "all" your meshes and import a fresh new complete armature skeleton with "skeleton only, parent selected" checked. At least it worked in Blender for me every time up to now.

edit: Blender sometimes also doesn't even show different armatures. Yet when you look at the shape modifiers of your meshes and there is more than 1 "armature parent deform" entry, exactly such things will happen on export.

Ah. I have no idea how to fix that (not being the modeller) but I'll pass it along to the modeller, if and when he gets his computer back. I honestly don't know when, as he hasn't been in contact for two weeks. But, anyway, that'll be helpful! Thank you!

Okay, the modeller on the team seems to have gone permantly AWOL. No response to emails, so either he's quit midway or all his computers got the same virus, so I'd like to throw myself on the site's mercy and beg for someone to fix up this mesh.
