Removing grass from an area

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:59 am

I have created my first house interior and exterior. I am very happy with it except for one thing, outside in my lovely garden the grass is everywhere and ruining my garden.
I have read through a fair amount of tutorials but I have not found any that refer to removing grass from an exterior area.
Now obviously I only want to remove the grass from around my house not an entire cell or anything. if it helps the house I created is right next to the Wawnet Inn

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the CS, go to your house's exterior. Press H to bring up the landscape editor. Then press I. You will see a new dialog window with four quadrants, each representing a quadrant of the cell you are working in. In each quadrant of the dialog box is a list of the landscape textures used in that quadrant.

If you want a quick job, find the grass texture you want to get rid of in that list, and right-click it to choose a texture to replace it with. Choose the exact same texture that is already there, but the "nograss" version.

It may take some exploration or trial-and-error on your part to figure out exactly what texture to replace and/or which quadrant to edit. If you face your camera north, the quadrants will be aligned as they are in the dialog box (if I recall correctly).

Alternately, you can paint a new landscape texture over what is there already, using the "nograss" version of the existing texture. This is a better way if you want some grass only in some areas.

Hope this helps!

Okay I got the quadrant menu up, and to be honest that looks rather baffling. I will play about for sure, but just want to check that this will remove the 3d grass I see in game right? not just the colour of the floor.

Thanks and please excuse my noobishness :)

Ahhh I get the quadrant thing now, very much trial and error for sure. managed to get rid of everything except ferns (not sure if they are to do with something else) but the paint texture thing does not seem to be working or at least it is not making any noticeable difference that I can see.
Any more detail would cool if not then I will just tinker for a few hours or until I fall asleep at the keyboard :) thanks again.

http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/A_beginner%27s_guide%2C_lesson_3_-_The_external_world's the beginner's landscape tutorial, for some more detailed information.

Also, regarding textures not showing up:

Every cell contains four quadrants, and each quadrant can only contain a maximum of nine textures. If your painting is having no effect, it is because that quadrant already has nine textures and you aren't using one of those textures. Press the I key to open up a list of textures used in the cell you are working on, and either choose those same textures to work with or delete one from the list (highlight it, then press the Delete key) to free up a slot.

This is great thanks, I think just from your info alone I have enough to work with, it may look daunting at first but it seems relatively simple after plying for just a few minutes, thanks for the page to this has saved me hours of stress lol :)
