Alright, so Ive listened to the video about 10 times, good stuff in there. At least to me its good stuff.
I thought the beginning was funny:
[MadDog: (audio fades in) "...tell us who you are and a little bit about what you do at Splash Damage."
Ed: "I'm Edward Stern, Lead Writer at Splash Damage upon BRRRINK! Uh yeah, thats what I do."
Steve: "I'm Steve Hessel, I'm the Community Manager at Splash Damage."
Ed: "So thats what you do?! Ive always wondered..."
Steve: "I just found out this morning."
(laughter)
Ed: "Hands him his credit card. Oh wait a minuet!"
(Ed holds up his hands and looks at them as part of the joke)
MadDag: "Okay so lets get into the questions. So, the game looks pretty polished so far. Whats left to do on it?"
Ed: (interrupts) No, no thats actually, no. You're wrong, no.
MadDog: "Really, it is not polished."
Ed: "No, no its not polished."
(Ed lets out a huge laugh, seemed to have been joking about it not being polished)
Steve: "Have you seen it!?"
MadDog: "Yeah! Ive played it myself! It looks amazing!"
Ed: Thank you, thank you very much. ]
I'm a bit busy to type up the whole interview, sorry guys.
There is a lot of talk in this interview about the SD development team's past experience with games, and what features they see need to be improved or simply taken out.
They credit all other games made today as being "good." But they do give a few reasons as to what makes or breaks a game. Some of which are very important little facts that actually mean a lot when it comes to making a great, lasting, first person shooter.
It seems like SD is bringing a lot to the table with its key members having as much experience making games as they do. They also talk about the breed of hardcoe competitive team based game players and how a lot of... us... are so intelligent when it comes to
playing the games they love. Ed mentions something like "these gamers actually think they are casual gamers... NO! These guys have PHDs in videogames, these guys know what to do, when to do it, and sometimes can't even tell you why they have to. They are that good." Its nice to see developers talking like real gamers more often, having discussions in interviews that someone like me, a long time PC gamer, would chat to his buddies over Vent about.
There is also some info that has already been talked about before, plus a few other things possibly not mentioned. Its worth a listen if you have time, and headphones.
