Books: Fan Submissions

Would Bethesda accept fan submissions for books that could be added to Skyrim so long as those submission were done by talented writers, and they could edit details for lore consistency?

"No, Bethesda doesn't want to be wading through our atrocious writing :P "

Seriously, look around the forums and think about it. :P

"No, Bethesda crafts their lore through their in game literature and they alone should be the ones to do so."

Why is everyone answering in quotation marks?

As much as I would love this and would write at least 10 entries, it would take to much time for the staff. Who would go through the entries? The writers? The writer's time would probably be better spent writing, rather than reviewing. I'd love to see a contest like this, but I can pretty much say with 100% certonty that it isn't going to happen. :sadvaultboy:

I don't know about anyone else, I was doing it because I was quoting an option from the poll and they call them "quotation" marks for a reason. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

I was making the point that the poll lacks the response that I gave in quotes. It's a little snarky, but I think that's the entire reason they do no take our stories.

If they'd sanction some kind of fan-reviewed contest wehre the fans pick the best 5 stories out of like... a few hundred... they'd only have to review the creme de la crop :P

This depends, of course, that there'd be that large of a pool to draw from... and that such a thing could conceivably occur... or should occur.

I think this would be way more time consuming than making the books by themselves. Even if most aportations where really good (quite improbable, not all the people are good at each posible human activity), they would need to choose only a little percentage, as the amount of material would be really huge. Would this be totally useless? I don't thing so, but I think the result/resource ratio wouldn't be very good. Contracting profesional writers would be easier and more effective.

What if the community holds its own competition, and choses the best 3-4% of the stories before submitting them?

Considering the quality and quantity of the books that have been in the series so far, they hardly need the help...

(Though the fact that the best of the Daggerfall books, King Edward and The Real Barenziah, were written by a beta tester, might be enough to leave me a little open-minded... that was a different time with a different way of making games, though.)

I would like to see them hold a contest where the best three fiction submissions get to be added. A bit of nice competition and fan-valuing/marketing. Some of the fan works on the forum are very good. The only rule would be that it would have to be a story, and not a bunch of mythobabble. That stuff has a place, and that place is not fan work.

It's something that could word, or not. Different groups could have different rankings, the winners of the contest could show unappropiate contents or copright violations (and this one is a very serious issue that even doublechecking could not fix)...

Basically the lesser beth's involvement the lessers they could control risks and the greater involvement the greater expenses. And I suspect putting both 'sliders' in the middle would lead to unsatisfactory results in both considerations.

Go make a poll in the fanfiction area and try to see which works are most popular among everyone.

As long as it fits lore or doesn't contradict of course.

So...the Lusty Argonian Maid sequel with her Khajiiti maid friend won't come to fruition? Dark days are upon us. :sadvaultboy:

I wouldn't mind a fan competition closer to release, like STALKER did with their design a quest comp.
