GATES TO AESGAARD - Episode One [RELz] #2

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:43 pm

I'm a little stuck, I'm in the abyss with the Gods and have no idea what to do now. I spent three hours running around trying to figure it out but so far I've had no luck, and that place is playing havoc with my vertigo. So any help would be greatly appreciated

Spoiler
In the house lower part in the corner there is a trap door in the floor - if it is GTA1

The Abyss. The quest arrow is true - it points to the exit but getting there is not straight forward. If I remember correctly you have to go towards the big hole in the middle? And from there run around it untill you find a set of stones with a stair up into the heavens. It is defende by some of the old knights guard so expect a heavy fight. Sorry I can't be more precise - I too ran around a loooong time; but when I knew somewhat what I was looking for it helped. And I hope this helps you too. There are quite a few shadow priest hanging around the hole too.

Cheers!

Does anyone know if there's a way to sensibly apply the version 1.1 patch to Episode 1. All of the patch files I've downloaded so far are exe's and refuse to install/extract unless the mod is already installed in the Oblivion data directory. And that's not going to happen until it's patched.

Unless the patch isn't generally required?

I don't understand why you are worried about installing the mod and then installing the patch overtop. That's a normal process. Is there something I'm missing?

I'd just like to patch it before I install it. Never had a problem like this with mods before. I've just extracted, patched, and re-archived about 3/4 GB of Hearts Of The Dead preparatory to installation with Bash.

Is the GTA Episode 1 er... v1.1 patch really necessary?

I just downloaded and tried out the patch to make sure I understood what you were saying. I get it now. I created a new temp folder and extracted the archive there, but the .exe refused to finish "installing" into the empty folder I prepared, because it said there were no files to update.

I wonder if you tried what I didn't (because I don't have this mod): first extracting all the mod files into a folder, then pointing the patch .exe to that folder. Let it update the files in your temp/install folder. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've done that and it won't play.

I don't think it's worth persisting with. I'll give version 1.0 a whirl and if I strike too much trouble I'll just have to wipe it.

But thanks again for your concern.

I just tried one last time and it worked. Nevermind what I said before.

I'm posting this everywhere relevant:

Gates To Aesgaard Episodes 1 and 2 New Patches

New patches have been uploaded for GTA Ep. 1 & 2, bringing them to v1.2 and v1.1 respectively. The patches fix a bug present in both mods which breaks scripted weather, including that of Oblivion Gates and weather mods.

The patches can be found on the Nexus pages for the two mods. With regards to Episode 1, be sure to patch it to v1.1 before patching it to 1.2.

If you have a Gates To Aesgaard (1 or 2) Weather Patch installed, you can remove it after installing the patch, as it is no longer required.

*Casts Thread Reanimate*

I've just gotten uploading permission from ThePriest909 for the Nexus page of this and GTA Ep. 2. I don't know of any bugs with this, but I thought I'd post here in case anybody knows of any I should fix while I'm fixing GTA Ep. 2. If you do, now's the time to report them. :)

This isn't a bug, but...

The versions of GTA 1 & 2 I ran last play-through (I didn't install 'em this time 'round) were in the EXE format. They can be converted to BAIN packages or OMODs easily enough I suppose (never tried it, being inexperienced at such things at the time), but it would be nice if they came in those formats from the get-go. (Maybe a BAIN 7z with OMOD conversion folder?) Other than being very particular about load order I recall nothing amiss with either GTA.

It's something that I've brought up with ThePriest909 previously, but he didn't want his models to be used as resources or something similar. Not that someone couldn't just copy them out once they'd installed the mod, so I can't say I understand the argument myself, but I respect his wishes as the author, so that's not going to change.

What I do is install it to a temp folder, then copy it elsewhere, make it BAIN-ready then compress it, before installing it with BAIN. I then can run the uninstaller in the temp directory to get rid of any registry changes (I hope!).

Only thing that I can suggest is running both ESPs through TES4Edit. I recall there being a marginal amount of dirty edits and deleted items that may as well get taken care of if you're going to update them both. I don't recall any actual bugs in GTA 1, I haven't yet done GTA 2.

In post 11 ThePriest placed a link to a walkthrough for Gates of Aesgaard 1, but it obviously no longer works. Does any one here still has that walkthrough, and if so then i would appreciate it if they could place a link so i can download it. Or if any one knows another site where i can download the walkthough then that would be great to. :)

The fact is that i have no idea how to continue. I made it through the ruin and i fought and killed that Demon General who was guarding a door. When i went through that door the Quest update mentioned that although it looked like the real world it was not and that i need to find a different way. The world i am in has snow covered mountains and lakes. I can not seem to find a method of continuing in that world, and i also can not seem to find a way to continue inside the ruins. I am currently back in the huge hall where you find Ashen Rose after killing that Cursed Knight.

I am certain that i am overlooking something but i just can not find out how to continue?

I just completed this mod and it was amazing. I don't really remember anything in the story I just went into it at level one, picked up some off the enchanted gear and off I went. Turned out the lesser frost staff and electric staff I found along with the soul gems turned into my salvation as I couldn't take any of the knights on in melee combat and being a pure warrior I had no other means of attacks, however running around in circles which was no easy feat I did manage to beat this mod in around 3 hours.

Amazing level design though, I feel like this is how some of the Oblivion gates should have been designed in the vanilla Oblivion.

Aaaaaaahhhh...i am going nuts here. I ended up in the Abyss and it appears i need to find a key in that place. Although place is an absolutely wrong name for the Abyss, because i have been running and fighting my way around that place for 2 or 3 hours real life time and i am not finding a key. Not to mention that the Abyss is a absolutely depressing realm. :bonk:

so please if any one can tell me what to do in that place to find the key that gets mentioned when you enter the Abyss, then i would be immensely great full.

Here's the full walkthrough that I wrote after ThePriest and I finished working on the mod and it was released. I thought I'd lost it with a lot of other data during a hard drive crash but I found it eventually on back up discs.

In a Spoiler tag for obvious reasons and there's no link now to the image mentioned at the end, but it shouldn't be hard to find the items. I'd bet not many people even knew about this part, which allows you to go back for anything you had to leave behind etc.

Spoiler
Gates To Aesgaard Episode One: Walkthrough

To start the quest make sure you are not inside a city or other interior. Go for a walk in the wilderness.
You will get a message from an old friend. Follow the instructions to the house behind Bruma.Search the house for a clue to the next step.
There is a door in the bedroom downstairs leading to a basemant. On the table are 4 books. One of them will give you the map marker and a quest message telling you where to go next.

Enter the ruin using the key and find the 1st room on the left. Make sure to get the key from the small ayleid cask under the tree.
Continue down stairs and you'll meet a Guardian. Kill it and take his key.

Take the door on the RIGHT to The Dark Path. On the right is a room with some zombies and loot. On the left is an ayleid cask and a note.
Take the note and you will have a vision.
Continue down the long staircase to Silent Souls. Dispatch any enemies and enter the door to the prison. Check each room and take the Key to Nowhere.
Go back to the room where you killed the boss and take the door to the left to Nowhere.

Jump across the platforms to the next door to the Monk Rooms.
** If you fall you will die. The water is NOT water**
There is a 2nd note on a desk. Take it.
Continue down the corridor passing the door to the Throne Room and turn right. Enter the door to the Prey Room.
There is a gate that needs a key so take the Stone door to Nowhere on the left and follow the path to the Sacrificial Chamber.
It has a Very Hard Lock. Be very careful...keep your head down. You can kill the beast or run very fast past it to the door that it guards.
Once in the pit you can't get out so move quickly.

Follow the short corridor to the opposite door to the Treatment Rooms. You'll be on the other side of the locked gate. Find the 3rd note and key to the gate and the Throne Room.

Go through the gate and back to the Prey Room to the corridor with the Throne Room door. The cursed Knight has the key you need to go on. Search Ashen rose's corpse for the 4th note and some info.

You see a blue portal guarded by a boss. Kill him and it will unlock.

Through the portal is a new land. It looks like Tamriel but you're out of luck. It's not!

You can follow the little path around the lake or just jump in and find the door at the bottom to Stochan's Tomb.
Enter the Portal and go back in time 800 years AFTER taking Stochan's Sword from the altar.

Exit the door to a deserted village called Talie. Search ALL the houses for a key to the Cursed Crypt.

Once inside carefully pass the blades and go down stairs to the right through the water and take the left passage.
Left again to long passage to the Sewers. Ignore the locked gate and take the ladder next to it to Nowhere.

You are at the door to Clathron's Chamber. BOSS. Kill him and take his key.
Go up the stairs to the right to Akhat's crypt.

Find the room to the right with a free standing door, a lecturn and a coffin leaning against the wall. Read the book for the next clue.

Go back to the entrance of the crypt and this time take the left passage. Exit the door and follow the path to the Castle.
**You cannot enter. DO NOT fall in the water. You will die**

Take the head and return to the room with the door. Put the head in the coffin and the door will unlock.

Go through and marvel at the fiery portal to the Abyss.

THE ABYSS

You will exit in front of a small broken tower with some supplies. DO NOT bother trying to kill the giant Gods of the Abyss
they are almost immortal. Sneak or run past them. There is a path to follow. Continue past the dead tree until you get to a small depression.

Go up the slope and you will see some ruins. As you get closer you will see the next portal. Get there quickly!!!

Exit the portal onto a platform. You will see steps going into the distance at the left. Follow them and don't fall - certain death.

Here is an altar with the Blade Key. Take It.

After the 2nd vision you are transported to the Axeman's Realm. You can go left and right for supplies.
Back in the area with the coffin in the center take the book AND the note from the desk. Get ready for a surprise.
Fight the Axeman....he will vanish when he's almost dead. Head down the passage to the portal and finish him off.
The gate will open now, so enter the portal.

Exit the portal and go down the long stairway to a bridge...couple of enemies here.
Follow the green arrow until you see a small ruined tower and a tree in the distance to the right. Veer left. The green arrow is your objective but you need to get there a different way.
You can go right up the incline, but will have to slide down the cliff or back track when you see where you need to go.
So, going slightly left check your map for a secret entrance among some rocks.

Go in and follow a door to the bottom of a ruined tower. Many enemies here. Run up the stairs to the top and battle 2 bosses.
Make absolutely sure to check the bodies for the Blade Key or you won't get out and back to Tamriel.

With the key go up the stairs to a platform with two gods by a blue portal. DO NOT try to kill them, they won't attack unless provoked.

Enter portal back to Tamriel. ALL keys will be taken from you......BUT...

If you want to go back anytime at a higher level for example or to collect loot you had to leave behind, there is a hidden jewellery box
under the 3rd bush to the North of Cloud Ruler Temple. See screenshot for location. The box is well hidden under some rocks.

THE END

Hope this helps.
