Disguises.

I know this game aint hitman, but I always thought disguises would be really helpful to more stealth orientated players, in a similar way the Grey Cowl worked in oblivion (obviously with the hopefully smarter guards of Skyrim). Things like a town's guard uniform could help you get into the town's castle, but if you get too close to another guard they may become suspicious that your not an actual guard and such and such. Thoughts?

yes, would add a whole new aspect to stealth if you could disguise yourself, maybe hide from the guards when they're chasing you instead of running, etc.

would also be a neat way to make your way into enemy strongholds. They had a bit of this in the shivering Isles, where if you wore the robes of certain cults (can't remember which ones, one of the robes was blue, the other brown), their members wouldn't attack you, was kinda neat.

I don't actually understand why walking close to another guard would reveal you for who you really are. I mean either a disguise works or it doesn't.

Anyway yeah, If I'm roleplaying a necromancer I want to be able to put on some mages robes and get access to the Arcane university alongside somebody who's actually a member.

Or I'm in the back of the castle on my way to loot the count/countesses quarters with my guards uniform on, I dont want the guard to psychically know I'm not a guard once he walks within 2 feet of me. Even if I'm actually acting irregularly, I want at least the opportunity to talk my way out of it E.G. --- After seeing me jump into a wall for 5 minutes(acrobatics ftw), guard runs up
Guard: hmmm haven't seen you back here before, who's your commanding officer ?
Me: (Passes speech check) I don't have one, the count hired me personally.
Guard: Oh, my apologies, carry on.

Or I dress as a peasant or a drunk(dirty torn clothes) I can get close to two more normally conscientious and suspicious NPC's and can hear them discussing details I wouldnt have had access to otherwise think http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Nocturnal but more fleshed out.

There's lots of possibilities for disguises and I'd like to see them utilized. My examples I'm sure could be easily applied to locations/ Ambient play, quests in Skyrim.

In Fallout you can disguise yourself by using some faction cloth... If Fallout NV have it, i don′t see why not to bring it to skyrim... As a thief you could disguise your self as a guard to fool them and scape... would be awesome! ;D

Well good Idea and really done by Mods before so isn't hard to be implemented by Dev's at last for some equipment
Clothing matters

Another thing its how will Sneak work in public places, I think npc must recognize player at sight on short or middle distance if bounty not so large, Suspicious NPC will initiate Dialogue with player and ask some question in depend of player speechcraft, personality, fame/infamy, Guild Ranks and quest lines or worn items there will be different answers versus NPC Intelligence, Confidence and speechcraft values at failure NPC will be alerted, at success go somewhere else (wanderer condition) or continue their AI schedule.

Chance become recognized will depend on Sneak Skill, so sneaky characters can work in public places also, some things can improve chance be recognized:

its having really large bounty thats make player be recognized not only by local guards but by other guards as well large bounty can increase infamy,
if bounty reduced by time to smaller value is known locally only until will be forgotten, while infamy is permanent and need to do something really good to clean it.

wearing stolen item on sight of previous owner or guard or trying to sell it back for robbed merchant, in thats way there will be no all known stolen but stolen really precious items like Relics and Artifacts can be recognized while stolen common hat from some one head will be recognized only by owner, stolen apple does not recognized, such item recognizability will depend on it price, stole something from beggar (how Evil are you to make such act :teehee: ) and only beggar will known about it bounty will not be added since guards will not bother with this, stole precious amulet from count and you will have problems.

wear inappropriate clothing (dark brotherhood armor or necromancer robe) or no clothes at all,
Clothing must matter as before and in improved way some items can work as disguise as well.

having unsheathed and equipped weapon,
cast destruction or conjuration spells in public places even if they missed and don't harm anyone now
Shooting from bow and miss closely to an NPC
Such acts definitely must be suspicious and work as aggression, npc can ask to stop such things or player will suffer.

stay in area of limits places as well
Instead of Attack on sight NPC will ask first few times if player doesn't leave, NPC become alerted will run and alert others or will try manage with player by self.

Gothic had some nice scrolls to transform the player into a meatbug, a snapper, and other beasts. I'd love that in Tes. It was cool to disguise in an animal so the others wouldn't attack you, but some species were hostile to each other. Being a small bug helped to enter locked places too (Gothic didn't have loading on doors).

Sounds lovely, if this means that if you wear a guard uniform and kill someone, the guards will be looking for a man in a guard uniform.
