Please No Brink.

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 11:22 pm

I've recently noticed, and I bet a lot of other people have, that in a lot of recent games (ie; BFBC2, Medal of Honor, Homefront), you need a sort of "pass" to level up in the game, that usually costs like, ten or so american dollars.
If you still don't understand, heres another example.
I recently bought Homefront used (Yeah I'm cheap) and when I went to go play the multiplayer it said I needed to enter a code, so I checked the code in the box of the game, and it didn't work, so the game asked me to purchase a 'Battle Code' for 800 Microsoft Points, equal to $9.99, needless to say, I didn't even touch the multiplayer, I'm much too cheap for that.
So this post, is basically me asking the community, would you like BRINK to include one of these 'Battle Code' systems or not?

Who would want one of these?

Some people who are strictly against little kids who couldn't afford a code playing online.

EA started it. It insures that if somebody buys a game used, they will still get some of their profit back.

Just a code.
But without the code you can't level up online, or unlock anything, basically eliminating the whole online experience (for me at least).

There's no code as far as they've announced. I hate the code too BTW. I don't see why they feel a need to crush the used games industry. It's not like they're taking a loss. Someone already shelled out 60 bucks for the game. It's no different than one person directly giving the game to another person.

That's not what the codes are for. The codes come free with a fresh copy of the game. If you buy it new it costs just as much as any other game.

They exist so that if you buy the game used, which doesn't profit the developers at all, you have to buy a code to play online, which does profit the devs. They're sneaky like that.

Pretty sure he's referring to the code that some companies are now making you buy if you buy one of their games used and want to play it online.

It's a way for game companies to stop gamers from buying games used so they can get more money from them.

The whole Battle Code thing, which was in BulletStorm also, is directed at ppl who buy the game used, the reason seems to be that when u pay full price, included in that price you right to play online, so when u trade your game back 2 gamestop who then resells it for profit the Game Developers get nothing, same as if your were to just give it to a friend.

So the Battle Code is there to kinda ensure that everyone who plays online pays their dues to the Devs for keeping the online up and running

also dont worry you missed nothing but [censored] frustration that was Homefront Multiplayer

I wouldn't mind it, since I'm buying the game new, but..

It would show that Splash Damage is only interested in money and could care less about their fanbase. Everyone already knows this is why EA started it. Any developers who starts implementing this in their games will reach an all-time low in my books.. :nono:

Battle Code = Poo

Although I have no recollection of having to enter in a code when first playing the multiplayer of each of the games you have mentioned.

That is the biggest load of [censored] Ive ever heard, any company that does that I will boycott. (EA was it?)

I understand why companies are allowing people to pay for advantages in games, bc there are so many people with more money than sense but it is starting to get out of hand. Id much rather have them focus on releasing a better product in order to generate $$ than coming up with these schemes. Its like CoD wanting $15 for mappacks in MW2 (2 of which were from MW1! and the other 4 Im sure were available at release). Im starting to feel like Im being mugged in a dark alley by these guys. I give them $60 for a subpar game to begin with and then they want more just for hastily put together maps. (which if you dont buy you get dropped from lobbies and have to start the whole "lord i hope this game has more then 20 secs left on the clock bit over again)

/end rant

I bought BC2 used and it always asks me to enter my online VIP code to unlock map packs or something but it still lets me lvl up and unlock everything...

So why make the rest of us suffer if it doesn't deter those kids who in all likelyhood don't pay for their games?

as a PS to my first post...
Itd be one thing if they were going to use the extra cash they generated from the maps and addon packs to put back into the game, but for christs sakes in CoD's case at least they started releasing new maps while there were still so many bugs that the old ones were hardly playable.

and i found out that i bought BC2 limited edition used which came with the previously released paid DLC included... thats what the VIP was about

This argument is flawed imo bc one person paid to use the online multiplayer right? once they sell the game back they cant play online anymore, having someone else buy it does not cost the game developers anything. Its not like its increasing the drain on the system, that one $60 slot has already been paid for.

This seems like one step away from being

[censored] #1 :" hey this guy didnt sell his game back, so we couldnt charge some other sap $10 xtra bucks for his slot"
[censored] #2: " Youre right!, we need to start adding a monthly charge to play our games online"

so then we are going to have to pay monthly for each develoment company's games we want to play online? /shudder

The only game I have played that uses what you describe is Homefront..... BC2 used a VIP pass, but you didnt have to use it or buy it to play. All it did was enable extra maps to play. You could still play all the original maps and level all the way to 50 without the pass.

But yeah .. anyways I dont want it on brink either.. It seems every game now a days that has online is following this trend.. Ijust bought Mortal Kombat this passed week and it had one. You had to have it to play online... The ONLY drawback of this is when you buy it used or rent a game. When you buy a new copy the code/pass/w/e comes with it free....

Im not arguing im telling you that thats the reason, i dont like it either but thats the answer i got

In what other case do you get to benefit from someone else paying for something?
Even PC games like BF2 you might not be paying them directly but they are benefiting from every extra E-mail address ppl have to register, so they can bombarde you with ads

In a way the BattleCodes avoid that very thing from happening, its more than DLC its patches and updates and server maitenence

i think this is time to bring out that old saying i used to love (NOT)

Battle codes, steam codes, game codes and all....
We don't discuss circumventing any codes or opening locks around here. It's often against the EULA and we just therefore never discuss it. It's even written in those rules pinned up at the top. Check them out folks, you've agreed to them.
