Where's the option for "I don't care" or "it depends on how the story is told / how the hero-characters are presented / made credible" ?

Oblivion was my First Game and i spend Months on my Character while doing all the Quests and finishing the Main Quest just to find Martin saving the day while im feeling like an Idiot on the side, yet Cyrodil is cheering me on and giving me an Armor for actually doing quite NOTHING. :banghead:

How was it in Previous Elderscroll Games, did you always played the Game by building your Character just to have some Dude do your job in 20 seconds flat. :shakehead:

Dont get me wrong, i Love Oblivion and it was the Best Game EVER, but i just Dont like wasting my Money/Time/Energy on a Game to have some Minor jump into action and do the Job for me. :homestar:

I really Hope theres meaning to the word Dovahkiin... DRAGONBORN when im playing Skyrim by the time i finish the Game and Alduin lies Dead under My Feet. :toughninja:

At the end of TES IV you stop a daedric invasion and then safely get the Martin to the temple, that's hardly "nothing." Martin's sacrifice may be what ultimately saves the day but you do a ton of leg work and rack up many heroic feats in the mean time.

This. Plus, oblivions ending has even more meaning, now you see whats happening in skyrim and alduins wall.I never had a problem with it anyway.

Can I slay Alduin myself sacrificing all my loved ones in the process?

Having your cake and eating it too.

While I do see your point, OP, you did a ton of work to get Martin to that point. I mean, think about Martin's last four tasks alone-- getting the blood of a Divine (!!!), a Daedric artifact, a Great Welkynd Stone (now THAT was a long mission!), and a Great Sigil Stone (quite the task!). And that's only the last four "fetching" quests to get you to Paradise-- another long mission. Remember all the missions before that?

I do agree, though-- I'd better be the one to stop Alduin. :)

I voted for the one that takes the least work. In all seriousness though I hate standing on the sidelines.

I would love it for the ending to be this... You reach Alduin, the fire filled streets tells tales of destruction and chaos, Alduin attacks first with all his might you block his attack with your shield you run forward, you unsheathe your sword you go for the neck until a flash of yellow goes past, a nearby Wood Elf survivor yells "It is the chosen one! The one chosen by Azura herself!" Then out of nowhere Alduin lies in pieces, balance has been restored and everyone around you walk towards the glowing figure chanting "By Azura! By Azura! By Azura! Its the chosen one!" Then glow fades and reveals The Annoying Fan(If you haven't work it out already)..

To me that would just honestly tick me off, then I'd take him to High Hrothgar and then put a arrow in between his eyes and watch his body fall down all 7000 steps..

Alduin is a god, probably even more powerful than Mehrunes Dagon. I doubt we're going to kill him. Probably going to send him back to wherever the Aedra /Daedra came from.

I actually melted Dagon with a powerful spell on the 360 version :P. It made me feel like a hero then and there. But yeah, Oblivion's ending didn't upset me too much, but being able to take on the big baddie without having to watch on the sidelines would be great for Skyrim.

He's an Aedra, so it wouldn't be as simple as sending him back to Oblivion. Mundus is his realm and has been since the creation of it. He's the God of Time, literally the embodiment of time, removing him from Mundus would also remove time and stability. Either we'll stop him in a way as simple as defeating his avatar, or else we'll have to get really creative to find a way to both stop Alduin from eating the world, while also keeping him in Mundus to keep things stable for the possibility of future games. Let's hope for the latter.

I'm hoping the plot will be better than just another "kill the Big Bad villain" at the end of the main quest. Also, I don't see why Alduin has to be a villain in this -- has Bethesda been hinting that he's the boss in "Skyrim"?

Basically, the dragons return was foretold by the elder scrolls where it explains that the dragons are going to destroy cyrodil, and only the dragonborn can stop them. It sais in the trailer :)

And Alduin is the lord Dagon of the dragons

Martin became the avatar of Akatosh to defeat Dagon, how's about your character becomes the Avatar of Shor / Lorkhan to defeat Alduin? I would definitely be up for that. Shor is reborn, temporarily, through you, to protect Mundus, and Alduin is temporarily defeated, at least as far as the ending of ending one cycle of time is concerned, when his big bad dragon avatar is killed by the avatar you have become.

Ahem.

I would be pleased with that outcome. I'd imagine Lorkhan's avatar would probably be a Scarab or a man in similar appearance to the Numidium or Akulakhan, or better yet, a Scarab that turns into a man with that appearance.

Could look pretty much the same, as long as the moons are missing from the sky while you are 'possessed'.

Honestly, the ending in oblivion wasn't too bad, i felt kinda good but i felt like i just cleared the path for something else, i'd honestly love to see a huge final fight, you versus Alduin, make it not scripted, so its not predictable, and make it a long ordeal (not extremely, but not like most fights in oblivion which took a few seconds, sometimes 10 if unlucky) but maybe a 5 minute fight... Add some sort of strategy too it that isn't obvious.. That'd be awesome, and imagine the feeling if you killed him above those 7000 steps and watched him fall. Standing on top of the world watching the avatar of a very powerful god fall under your power... epic

I'm OK with Oblivion's end, but please let us have an hard, challenging and epic battle against the dragon god, Alduin. Don't let the final boss be a letdown.

And no more of that Mannimarco BS, Beth learn how to make good bosses!

Alduin is a immortal god so you can't slay him. You can only prevent him form destroying the world (for now). That being said I think the thing that defeats him will be more of a ritual that you have to do that turns him back into Akatosh.

Biased poll is biased. In Oblivion I didn't feel like a sidekick at all.

Yeah, you are the Hero behind the scenes. Nothing would have been possible without you, and Martin would have perished if you hadn't went too Kvatch. Also, defeathing Mankar Camoran was vital in stopping the invasion. You are the Hero, Martin just sweeps in, summon Akatosh and takes the glory. I still like Martin though

Refuse to vote in such a dumb poll. You are the one who slays Mankar Cameron remember, you do more than anyone else to save the day.

This.

Though I would prefer to kill the big baddie myself this time.

If the ending's definite, I'd let my lad do it but if it's not, I'll kill the man myself.

Morrowind allowed us to fulfill a prophecy and defeat Dagoth Ur, returning the lands to the rightful Dunmer owners. You were the ultimate hero then. So that was cool ^^
