A new damage system:

Health Bar-
Localized health in menu-
Head,
L. Arm, R. Arm
Torso
L. Leg, R. Leg

- Light injuries
- Mechanics:
- Regenerate fully with time without treatment
- No affect on combat, movement
- Appearance:
- Slight cuts and bruises appear on injured body part
- Treatment:
- Disinfectant and bandages speed recovery, without which there is chance of infection or bleed
- Other healing salves
- Doctor/healers will get angry if you bother them with such trifles
- Spell: "Heal light injuries"

- Medium injuries
- Mechanics:
- Do not regenerate fully without treatment, but will slowly get better over time
- Slight affect on combat/movement, depending on location of injuries
- Appearance:
- Major cuts, minor breaks or factures
- Treatment:
- Doctor/healer visit to set bones, sew cuts - short recovery in hospice
- Do on own with proper equipment (gathered by piece) with chance of failure
- Temporary treatment with braces, salves, and bandages - similar chance of infection and bleed
- Temporary magical maintenance spells/potions (work similar to braces, salves, and bandages)
- Spell/potion: "Heal medium injuries"

- Serious/grave injuries
- Mechanics:
- Do not regenerate at all, and in fact slowly drain health to death
- Significant effect on combat/movement, depending on location of injuries
- Appearance:
- Profuse bleeding, major breaks
- Treatment:
- Doctor/healer visit to set bones, sew cuts - significant recovery in hospice
- Temporary treatment with braces, salves, and bandages - almost certain chance of infection and bleed
- Temporary magical maintenance spells/potions
- Spell/potion: "Heal serious injuries" (only master restoration or alchemy allow)

I'd actually like to see different damage types.

Blunt damage - mace, club, hammer, hand to hand, etc
Slash damage - blades, arrows

Armor would also have two ratings, protecting from slashing and blunt protection. this would make combat more strategic.
A hammer would do a different amount of inflicted damage against plate armor, while a sword would do less.

I loved Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater for it's damage model. Suffering horrific wounds would mean you had to stop the bleeding, sew it up and dissinfect and bandage it. You had a 3d model of Snake you could check out and see where and how badly you were injured. Of course not every wound did this and some people wouldn't be into it but I really enjoyed it. After swimming through a river I had leeches all over me and I used my cigar to burn them off, pretty sweet.

I think it would be pretty cool to barely survive a particularly hardcoe dungeon with no medical supplies left and a head wound and a broken arm. Just praying you don't run into a troll or something on your way out.

since they are borrowind perks from fallout i hope they also implement location damage. its really hard to play games now without it.

i also like the different damage types like blunt, pierce, slash. mount and blade warband has a really nice system already in place for melee and archery combat.

As I was reading the OP's first post, I kept thinking just copy MGS3. They did it perfectly. Once I got used to it, it was one of the best parts of that whole game.

I'm not a fan of this personally. I prefer standard health.
