A Big Flaw?

So in the latest smart video we hear about how operatives can always see enemy mines. If they ironsight the mine then it becomes visible to every player on the team. Later in the video the commentator says once mines are visible you can destroy them.

So if mines can be destroyed by guns, and operatives can always see mines, why not instead of marking them for all teammates they just destroy them...?

That would take up a fair amount of ammo, and if they aren't using a silenced weapon it also gives away their position. It's certainly possible, it just won't be a very smart option in all situations.

Yeah, I know.. To me that mines can be shot at and that they are always visible for Operatives' no matter where they are makes them seem useless

Take a dead enemy's guise.

Stalk enemy engineer, iron-sighting on all the mines he plants.

Profit.

A smart engineer would put his mine somewhere sneaky enough that passing operatives wouldnt notice, as well as this if an operative does destroy a mine he risks giving away his position something no operative wants to do :3

Probably because if an operative shoots a mine, he looses whatever disguise he had at the current moment. While disguised, he can go do reconnaissance near an enemy objective, and spot mines without compromising his disguise. Now he can get out of there, and form up with his team as they prepare to storm the objective area, all his teammates now having knowledge of where not to set foot.

Also, as mentioned above me, it costs precious ammo. From the looks of it, your allotment of ammo without a soldier buffing your capacity isn't too impressive.

I like the responses to these question, there's alot of "well you could do this but that would happen or maybe that instead so as not to do this" and im loving this kind of banter and way of thinking, proves to us all this game is gonna rock

Four things come to mind

1 Shooting a mine with an unsilenced weapon = You on the enemy team's radar.

2 Shooting when disguised = Lost disguise (You can maintain your disguise when spotting mines for other teammates)

3 Ammo.

4 Not enough time.

Maybe they get more EXP for spotting them and letting someone else take care of them then doing it yourself. If you ask that then why do they rarely kill the people they down.

This is just like how mines work in Wolfenstein ET.
Covert ops can spot mines (at a certain level in the covert ops skill). Looking at the mines through binoculars for a moment will make them visible to the whole team. You can destroy them with grenades/explosives but the engineer will hear them explode and be alerted that you are near their objective. Also, if your mines have been spotted, if you toss a grenade on them, they will blow up.

So in short, choosing to spot them or destroy them is a tactical decision.

Reason would be to spot the mine and same ammo.

Plus this to help engineers to defuse for extra exp. More exp is rewarded for defusing then shooting.

It also looked like the mine actually exploded in the video when shot. And that seems like a pretty poor way of being covert. Either that or maybe you have a team nearby when you spot it. Blowing it up next to people just isn't cool man. Engi can actually disarm the thing.

The clips in the video showed both somebody destroying a mine and somebody tagging a mine. The guy got 75 experience for tagging the mine and the guy who shot the mine? He got less or none. As far as i remember he got very little compared to the op tagging the mine.

If i get 10xp for shooting the mine and 20xp for letting an engineer defuse it, no choice....
