What camera will you play at Skyrim?

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:49 am

First person all the way. IMO the point is to be my character, not follow him like a chase-cam in a Uwe Boll movie.

On that note, I'm sure you would agree that improving the FPP by adding full body awareness would be a huge boon to the first person camera view in Skyrim. I just mentioned how this would be easily done in another thread, and I think it fits here too.

I personally love both views, but both good be improved. We already know 3rd person is getting overhauled, but the question remains as to whether or not they've added the simple feature of being able to see yourself in first person. I hope to be pleasantly surprised by having both camera options updated like that. Then there would never be a need for a single question or complaint about 1st or 3rd person perspective. It's a total win-win. :foodndrink:

I always play first person, the only time I switch to third person is when I'm viewing new armour sets, weapons or shields on my character.

1st person for business.

3rd person for looking at boobies and exploring.

1'st person all the time, will switch to 3rd very rarely, sometimes when traveling and when i want to watch my character.

I use 3rd person 99% of the time and only switch when I'm having trouble aiming the bow or need to look at something close.

Provided 3rd person is viable, I'll use it all the time! I like seeing my character, especially after putting so much work into making them look attractive.

I hope the devs don't decide to disregard 3rd person animations due to this evidence. People still have to watch NPCs use those, even in 1st person.

First person. Don't know how anyone can play this game in third. Just doesn't feel "real" or like your in control. The only time I used third was for riding on the horse in Oblivion.

Seeing a lot of contradictions here.

If you are playing in third person you are not and can not be 'role-playing' because you are not playing as your role, you are narrating/puppeteering/observing.

You can only role-play in the strictest sense from the 1st-person perspective. That goes for words as well as camera views.

Think of it like this: In theatre, the director tells the actors what to do and say and how to say it, but it is still the actor carrying it out, and playing the role. In third person you are the director, in first person you are the actor.

I'm pretty exclusively 1st-person for the immersion factor, and in Morrowind and Fallout I will switch to third for vanity's sake and in Oblivion I use the inventory for that.

I voted 1st person all the time, but I switch to 3rd when I'm looking for something on the ground, like a body in the grass that's slid down a hill for instance. Or worse, a weapon in the grass, that slid down a hill. 3rd person allows you to see all the way around your character and see MORE of the ground at once. Otherwise, I go 1st person all the way.

Another of the reasons why Bethesda is cool. They make the effort to put both views into the game. Even though I prefer 1st, I still want 3rd to be there. Don't ever take that away.

edit: got too exited, didn't proof read.

First person whenever the game lets me choose. Unfortunately every time I sit or fall down Oblivion decides to switch to third person view for me. It's very disorienting and I really hope they don't do that in Skyrim.

Whatever I feel like at the time, I like how there is a choice.

only times I'd use third person:

admiring my character
If there's mounted combat
if i get a sunfish-type personal sailboat
Sneaking around (I feel a bit safer and i can see around corners, i use 1st for stealing though)

Depending on my mood, I either play completely 1st person or I switch to third person when I'm traveling the countryside.
