I wouldn't be surprised if the new face system reduces the players' options to create absurdly ugly faces, as it seems like Bethesda is sacrificing somewhat the face customization to ensure that faces look good. Though I'm sure we'll still see and be able to create ugly characters, just that they may be more realistically ugly rather than the "Is that even physically possible?" kind of ugly.

See the only screenshot we've got of characters; a rugged bartender, a stunning brunette sweeping up and a bombshell blonde. I've got the oddest feeling Bethesda have gone too far in the 'good looking', and now everyone will be an FHM model.

So basically, because all the screenshots of characters we've so far seen look okay, it means we won't ever see ugly people? ust because attractive people exist in the game doesn't mean everyone is attractive, and of course Bethesda is going to show us the attractive people first, because people are more likely to be interested in a game from seeing a screenshot if it shows an attractive character than one who isn't, especially since Oblivion was criticized for the uglyness of it's characters, I'm sure that an indication that Skyrim will have better looking ones is somerthing many people wanted to see.

I am far, far more worried that characters won't be pretty enough, as opposed to ugly enough. It's a promotional screenshot -- that Nord woman might be the prettiest the engine is capable of. This wouldn't be horrible, but I remember fighting with the Oblivion sliders.

I'm with you. Characters in Oblivion looked like dirt. However, in New Vegas, I made a female character who ended up looking like Natalie Portman...

If Vsion says we can make fugly characters, then I can trust that much(jajaja I've been watching your posts and updates about races :D), I had my doubts about the Fallout3/NV route they were advocating on taking with regards to removing options and replacing them with premade faces, bits and peices as did Dragon age 2, quite frank this annoyed me to no end, and no matter what character you made, they still had the ackward art style of an elongated face, same goes for FO3/NV without the CS or mods.

This.

And this. Seriously, from previous TES games, you could argue that the lore says that everyone in Tamriel has hideous, misshapen proto-human features. And back it up with pics of any vanilla NPC. They do great design of worlds, but the faces always have the appearance of being designed by alien archeologists making wild guesses from fossil records.

Ideally, I'd like to see actual character in humanoid faces as well as occasional beauty, but there's no doubt that fugly will be in, probably in abundance. Going overboard on beauty would be a refreshing change of pace as far as I'm concerned. (Though I'd prefer a realistic balance.)
